Good Questions: Classic Stripey Club Chair Sources?

mail-22222.jpgHi AT,

I love the classic club chairs with the rounded arms like the pics attached. The first is a Williams Sonoma custom model that is no longer offered. The second is Pottery Barn, but it only comes in leather or "everydaysuede" - no thanks, I'll pass. Any idea where I can find or have made 2 similar chairs in a wide-striped fabric?

Thanks! JV

Dear JV,

The chair part is easy, it is the wide striped fabric that is harder.

We would go to Mitchell Gold, which has a good, but not wide, selection of fabrics and then we would check out this good question thread, which has a bunch of other leads.

If the fabric is just too hard to find, we would consider digging up some used club chairs on Craigslist and then paying to have them recovered in a fabric that rocks your world.

Anyone else??

Todd Oldham from Lazy Boy? Not sure about the chair, but he definitely has lots of stripes, patterns, etc.

if you're on a budget, there's a custom slipcover company called bemz that makes slipcovers for ikea furniture in really groovy patterns. one is a bold stripe--not sure how wide, definitely bigger than ticking stripes, though--in several colors.

here are the chairs they make covers for:

You may need to find the chair frame you like at a retailer that will do the upholstery with "C.O.M": "Customer's Own Material", then you'd have to find and supply the fabric separately.

The Mitchel Gold "Jules" chair has somewhat of a similar shape...

Not inexpensive, but you could also try Curran On-line - The Emily is also somewhat similar: http://www.curranonline.com/emilychair.php

I would echo the LayZBoy recommendation - I bought a great Todd Oldham with a retro stripe fabric. Very comfy chair. Also they often have 2 for 1 sales on these chairs...I bought one with a friend and we each took one home!
