Good Questions: Cleaning Paint from Porcelain?

11-25-cleaning-sink.jpg

Does anyone know a way to get paint off of a porcelain sink? I cant take it off the wall - most tips online recommended that. Today I tried some biodegradable paint remover, but it didn't work very well even after letting it sit for half an hour. Help?

I've had alot of luck using a product called Goof Off (sold at Home Depot, etc) for removing latex paint. It easily removed paint from my stainless steel sink and quartz countertops.

Pumis stone. You can get it at any hardware store and 99% sure it will take it right off.

Use "Masters brush cleaner" by General it gets paint out of everything including brushes that were left with paint on them for 6 months and my tie at work.... but its awesome stuff and a little goes a long way and its super gentle (the tie is silk)

I agree with using the magic eraser- I've used it before on small flecks of paint and it worked well. I don't know how well it would work with a large area, but it's worth a shot. They make different levels of toughness, try the extreme one, I think it's meant for the bathroom.

Is it latex? Fill the sink w/water. Let it sit for a long time. Use a scotch-brite type pad to scrub it off. Good luck.

Im not sure if it's latex or not, the previous owners painted the sink and the bathtub (both cast iron, porcelain) and its all starting to peal off revealing the nice unbroken, non rusty perfectly fine original finish underneath (whats wrong with these people?)

Im not sure a pumice stone would work for this since I dont want to scratch the porcelain.

Ive used a scotch brite pad pad on it before for regular cleaning, but it doesnt do much other than get some of the stains out of the exposed bits, not much for getting the paint off.

Does Goo-Off use citrus oil as its main ingredient? I think thats what the stuff I bought uses and it didnt work too well.

I dont want to have to resort to buying the heavy duty varnish remover, but it seems like one of the sure fire ways to just get the paint off without scraping too much.

It's some kind of resurfacing paint. The previous homeowner did a botch job. It's NOT latex based, otherwise it would have come off buy now.
We're looking for a green or non-toxic way of doing this.
