Good Questions: Comfy Romantic Seat for Two?

2005_1_3_question mark.jpgHello AT,

I'm looking for a two-person sitting place, about 48" long. A tiny loveseat? A huge chair?? Any comfy ideas for my tiny apartment?

Thanks, Michael

Just jump into bed. Actually, we would do the following:
1. get over to Room & Board as they have a really good selection of small sofas
2. I would build a simple bench with plywood against the wall and smother it in cushions
3. you can get good foam rubber at Canal Rubber
4. good fabric at Zarin (Thanks, Michael!) MGR

I was recently in the EXACT SAME predicament! I needed something less than 54 inches across that could seat two and spent the last two months trying to find something. Everything loveseat/sofa-wise at R&B (and everywhere else) is too big and nothing described as "small-scale" really is (64"? Please. I should be so lucky to have space for that). Most oversized chairs are extremely deep and so weren't suitable for my needs. Even getting two regular-sized armchairs wasn't happening because it was impossible to find two which, when placed together, wouldn't exceed my size restrictions. And, for me, using the bed was not a suitable solution because I always end up falling asleep when I lounge on my bed. In my brain, bed=sleepytime. I finally purchased a "Jackson" settee from Crate and Barrel. I think it is 46 inches across and not ridiculously deep. It doesn't have arms, which was something I wanted, and it is not the plushest, most comfy option (though you can add pillows/throws to remedy this). But believe me when I say it is one of very, very few choices available for people with seriously limited space. I looked eeeeeverywhere.

I've been looking for exactly the same thing. My current choice is the Potomac Twin Sleeper from Crate and Barrel. The dimensions are 59"x36"x30"H. I've tried sitting on it for extended period of time; it's quite comfortable. Still mulling about the purchase though.

I have a small love seat that I bought at Nova Zembla Modern on Smith Street in Brooklyn about a year ago. It's 48"x30x35" H and pretty comfortable. Email me if you want a picture.

It was such a nice day I went to Zarin downtown. They just opened thier new showroom today! Great timing..they have everthing now..I needed a custom sofa like you. Price was great and fabric selection amazing. I even bought a chair and some picture frames. They look EXACTLY like Jay Stongwater but at less than 100 per frame! What a great source for gifts. If you go..email back. WHat do you think?
