Good Questions: Cool Coat Rack for Picky People?

4-20-coat-rack.jpgHi there AT!

My co-workers and I are trying to find the best coat rack/hook/thing for our office and have run into a problem. Most of them look too home-y, colorful (see Eames), eccentric (see antlers) or boring. I know that sounds like we hate everything out there. But what we're looking for is something that has style but isn't too trendy. Help please!

Thanks a lot, Jeannie

Dear Jeannie,

What's the matter with what you have in your picture? And where is that from? Our latest favorite is this one:

4-20--coathook.jpg

Hanger Wave from Design House Stockholm. Design House is sold in various places in NYC.

Okay, if your going to be difficult, here's our most recent list of what we like:

Spritz Hook from Restoration Hardware (they have a great hook selection)

Big clip is expensive but wacky fun
Blu Dot 2d:3d Coat Rack is mod but unusual
Shaker Peg Coat Racks are really the best of all and can be painted fun colors if need be.

Anyone else??

The Container Store

for my hallway I wanted a wall of hooks but wanted to keep it simple visually. I picked up the shaker style peg rack from the container store - cut it to fit the location and painted to match the wall.
It's not a statement - I didn't want one at that location - but it does have a nice minimalism to it.

The coat rack in the picture is from Mxyplyzyk
https://www.mxyplyzyk.com
It's the "Flip & Slide Coat Rack" on the site and sells for $32

OK, confirmed - the one in the pic is from Umbra, and is available through their online store, both in natural and espresso stains.

see umbra.com. (how are you getting html tags, Nuance? When I've tried, it hasn't appeared in the post.)

Hello, Jeannie's coworker here. The image that she posted is from Chiasso.com — the "flip coat hook" for $38.00. It's great that mxyplyzyk carries it as well — and for a few dollars less. There was nothing "wrong" with the coat rack, but we knew there were more fabulous things out there. Thanks so much for your suggestions.

I don't *think* I can be accused of thread monopolizing, but I'm going to risk it here, just because I want to make sure everyone knows how cool umbra stuff is. They are designers and manufacturers of home goods, based out of Toronto, and have incubated (I believe, could be wrong about this) designers like Karim Rashid.

Lots of home goods stores carry their things, but if you can't find something of theirs, they do ship directly from their online store.

Just want to promote Canadian design - my apologies if everyone already knows this, but it wasn't obvious from my own post that I meant that Umbra is the company that designed and manufactured that very clever coat rack.

Topdeq also has a great selection of chic and semi-industrial solutions.

btw, i have that design house stockholm rack and absolutely love it. it's actually sold as a pair (not too wide each) that you can configure together or separately or with additional racks. i bought mine at a store in san francisco, and don't recall it being very expensive -- which makes it even better!

I just purchased that coat rack 2 week ago from Chiasso. I love it since because of the nice contempory style and the ability to close the hooks when not in used.

The "hangar wave" is great — does anyone know of a store that carries it in online or in the NYC area?

The stores linked to the "Design House Stockholm" site don't seem to carry it.

original blues:

You have to include the http:// in your message to get the html tags to show up as a link.

Does anyone know where in NY the Wave hanger is sold? I have only found it online and have been unable to get an order to go through on the Design House Stockholm website.

Hi,

This coatrack is from Design House Stockholm and you can find it at my store at:

You'll find this, and other sweet modern Scandinavian design products!

speaking of coat racks, does anyone recommend a cool standing rack? I dislike the ornate, old-fashioned wooden ones. I don't mind wooden, but I'd like something with a modern twist. Thanks - Karen

I'm really digging the wire rack at DWR, but at $300 am having trouble coughing up the cash. Here's the link to it: http://www.dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=10461
