Good Questions: Cool Industrial Lighting Fixtures?

yhst-69328165909994_1875_3737994.gifHello AT,

I just bought a small office building in DC for my design practice and am looking for some cool modern industrial lighting fixtures to hang from the ceiling (11')as task lights- any ideas?

Thanks, Joan

Joan,

Wow. That's a problem we wish we had. For cool lighting that would be suitable in an office environment, we would go to YLighting.com for a wide variety.

If you wanted COOL, you could take a look at Inmod.com.

There are also the awesome Nelson pendants at Modernica that come in monster sizes.

If you want upscale Italian cool, check out the line at Artemide.

If you want just plain DIY inspiration, take a look at these huge farm lights that a friend hung from the ceiling of his gallery. He found them in a field in Pennsylvania.

Not another Joan! (Sorry, Joan.) I guess now I'm the first one.

I use the online sites quite a bit myself but since you're in DC, check out Illuminations (2 dc locations). They represent a lot of great mfrs..Artemide, Neihardt, Oty, Prandina and many others. They've got some great selections in the showrooms as well in case you need to "touch and feel".

Luzifer lighting... well I was dying to get my hands on these myself, especially the one shown above but upon closer inspection in person, they just didn't seem to live up to the photos.

Happy hunting.

Joan, I'm probably not supposed to do this since I'm recommending my store but we're the only place you can find these products online. Check out the Greene Street for $140 or the Boston Functional 2 arm for $220.

Joan (the unlit)--
If you haven't done so already, check out Interior Design magazine, a GREAT resource for lighting solutions (retail, industrial, to the trade, and even more cool, lighting solutions derived from available materials, but created in unique ways.)

Also, Debbie Travis on an office version of painted house made a WAY cool ceiling fixyure from the lids out of take-out trays. Sounds hideous, looked amazing.

But, at that ceiling height, these aren't really going to be task lights, but more ambient, no?
