Hello AT,
I'm looking for nice decorative hooks to hang bath towels and bathrobes in my bathroom. i really want something more creative/interesting then your typical steel, silver, hook type contraption found at any number of stores. i recently stayed at a hotel designed by todd oldham, and they had these very cool hooks.
any ideas where to find similar (or just similarly interesting)?
Thanks!
-Allison

Dear Allison,
Ambiente Accessories is a colorful line of bathroom accessories by Hastings Tile & Bath that allows you to add colored glass tips to your hardware, personalizing everything from robe hooks to soap dishes.
You might also check out Pullware, who has several lines of decorative hardware inspired by distinct U.S. cities and towns. These are cast metal pieces, which aren't as colorful as what you're showing above but which do have nice texture and variety.
Any other resources for inspired hooks?

ha - this must've been a draft waiting for publication when M would be otherwise pre-occupied.
in any case, I am loving the hooks and hardware at Anthropologie, http://www.anthropologie.com/jump.jsp?itemID=388&itemType=CATEGORY
and am jealous that I can't get any of them here in Canada (and the shipping charges are killer!)
You should try the "Hook Lady"
www.hooklady.com
She has all the hooks you need.
Depending on the style you are looking for, these may or may not work, but I think they are really interesting and beautifully simple. ceramic boat cleat hooks at www.delongceramics.com The artist also does tiles and prints...and I'm a fan of supporting local (B'lyn).
I have some antique/salvage curtain tie backs in the closet (handbags) and the bathroom. cheap. cute. unique.
We use two antique grab holds from the NY Transit Museum Store for hand towels. You can get them online for $20 each.
I love the hooks I bought at Gracious Home. They are probably the only modern ones they sell (or sold, it was some years ago), angled black rubber, but GH has alot to look at esp. on the east side.
Re the hook lady - WOW. I have an unreasonable love for hooks, possibly brought on by my lack of storage. I use hooks, nails, etc to hang my bags, jewelry, etc on my apt walls & doors. I love this b/c it keeps everything at hand and simultaneously decorates my place. I find that hardware stores (if they don't have hooks you like, look at their drawer pulls) and antique stores have the good selections, but I do tend to find them all over the place.
You can also make your own: bend silverware; attach basic hardware hooks to blocks of wood, tile or anything else or even redesign those cheap stick-on hooks - I glued some paper I really liked on one of those and its stuck above my kitchen sink holding my measuring spoons.
Nice looking - you can also get some good ideas at LookInTheAttic online. They have some great stuff.
