Good Questions: Cool Modern Pillow Slipcovers?

4-2-pillows.jpgHello AT,

I love my throw pillows, but want to change the color scheme in my apartment from blue/brown to orange/brown. Instead of buying new pillows and having to store the current pillows (which I want to keep when I want to switch back to blue), I was wondering if anyone knew of any great websites that sell cool, simple, modern Throw Pillow Slip Covers?

Thank you! Jeff

Dear Jeff,

Many shops will sell you the covers without the pillows. Here's our latest list of good resources:

PillowsandThrows.com
Top 10: Throw Pillows
Michele Varian: Colorful Software for Your Home
2005 Un-Gift Guide: Judy Ross Pillows

Anyone else??

West Elm always has some pillowcases on deep discount...

I agree - the West Elm near me always has lots of pillows in their clearance section. All of their pillows have two prices on the tag - one for the pillow and one for the stuffer.

I second Aaron's suggestion of West Elm, but also try eBay (search for Thomas Paul), or Jonathan Adler. Try also BoConcept and even Pier 1, as well as Chiasso.

Circa50 also sells pillow covers from Maharam.

Yes, it is common to see the cases without the fill. Pottery Barn does it too.

In my last apartment I changed pillow covers seasonally, with a green/aqua set for spring/summer and a red/burgundy set for fall/winter. I always just kept all the cases on the pillows, some of which had sewn-on covers originally - so some individual pillows had three different looks to chose from!

For another tip, Crate & Barrel was always a good choice for solid color pillows; Pier 1 has some attractive choices but tends to have sewn-on pillow covers. Pillow covers are also a nice thing to buy when you travel, I have some lovely ones from Thailand and Bali - they're easy to pack but make a nice statement and reminder of your trip when you get home.

Try eBay seller Home Republic: http://stores.ebay.com/HomeRepublic

OR

Etsy seller Absoluut from Amsterdam, who makes beautiful pillow covers and the prices are just awesome!

you can always knot a large scarf around a pillow to change the look. just turn the pillow 45 degrees and tie the corners together. if you tie pretty knots, they can face out. or if you're like me, they face the couch. :)

Why not make your own? If the pillows are a square or rectangular shape, they're very simple to sew, even by hand.

Finding covers only is a challenge. If you see something that will work for you in my line (www.henryroad.com), let me know and we can do a cover-only deal. Good luck with your search, Paula

I've also found a lot of great deals on ebay for pillow covers.

I recently had a great experience with a reseller who made me custom pillow covers using their fabric choices. Working with the reseller was a pure joy and their quailty is #1.

I buy my decorative pillows online at Alluminare because they let you design them yourself. It's fun, and I can change the look of my apartment every season.
