Hello AT,
I'm looking for a couch that can double as a bed. I haven't resigned myself to a sleeper sofa or futon yet though. I'm wondering if you know of any daybed style sofas in a double size that I can just pile up with pillows? I'm thinking something similar to the Pacific sofa from Pottery Barn.
Thanks, Heather

to get an idea about a sofa that can fold into a bed, look at www.troysoho and www.dwr i seen sofas like that at their showrooms.
I like the Havana Sofa from DWR:

That looks like a great sofa and kind of like what I've been looking for and more (the storage!) How do you like it?
Pixie - I actually don't own the sofa... But *wish* I did! If I had known about its existence a few years back -- when I purchased my living room sofa -- it definitely would have been a strong contender.
the dwr sofa is gorgeous, but i'm wondering - is it comfortable to *sit* on? seems your feet won't touch the floor, and you'll be like a 6 year old, because of the depth.
also - i'd be reluctant to sleep on it every night, as a mattress, for fear of ruining it. it ain't cheap.
I just purchased the Simone daybed from Crate & Barrel - and it's heavenly - the kind you "sink" into. You can also get custom covers made for it from C&B.
pphillip--I'm also wondering if the back is too low to be comfortable.

It's kind of neat how the sofas have three positions: regular, tv watching, sleep.
I like the GARBO style the best.
I would caution Heather against buying the PB sectional and trying to sleep on it. Sectionals tend to move around when you dip into the cracks. Unless, I guess, you bind them together somehow.
ABC Carpet has a great Mitchell Gold sofa that must be at least the size of a queen bed. I've always dream of buying it as soon as I get my 3000 SQFT Loft.
After looking on their website, I think it might be the Dr. Pit

I love the BR02 convertible sofa by Martin Visser. It's not cheap, but so, so cool.

Thanks for introducing me to Dileto. Looks great!
Anyone bought one?
However, I think we're getting away from the Good Question, which was "not sleeper sofa."
*pphillipp, I considered the Havana and came to the store to try it. The verdict: it's one of the pieces that look better in catalog than live.
Does anyone know what Diletos cost?
That item would be a nightmare...to sit on, or to sleep on. The falling in the cracks is one problem, as mentioned. The size is not going to have sheets to fit, so you'll either need them custom made or just fling a flat sheet over the bottom.
The individual items are nearly twin bed size, each.
Pacific 3-Piece Sectional
DIMENSIONS
Overall: 107" wide x 69" deep x 42" high
Left-Arm/Right-Arm Chaise: 38" wide x 69" deep x 42" high
Armless Chaise: 31" wide x 69" deep x 42" high
Seat Cushions: 3
Back Pillows: 10
Meanwhile the daybed section has the Montego:
Montego Sofa
DIMENSIONS
Overall: 86" wide x 51" deep x 42" high
Seat Height: 19"
Arm: 24" high, 7" wide
Bottom of front side rail to floor clearance: 12" high
Upholstered Seat Cushion: 75" wide x 39" deep x 7" thick (8 tufts)
Slipcovered Pillows: 22" square
Believe me, I have a daybed. They do NOT make for comfortable daytime seating, because they are too DEEP. And that monstrosity at PB is only good for lying back on, not for actually sitting on. It would be terribly hard on the back.
You'd actually be better off using a bed as a seating surface...at least people could get on and off the darn thing, and it would be supportive for sleeping. Just that it sounds like a big slumber party with everyone sitting on the bed. LOL!
My suggestion? Sit down. Sit on all the various items you're considering, and really examine your own needs. WHY do you need a giant seating surface? WHY do you need it to double as a bed? How often will it be used as a bed? Do you and your family/friends/guests generally lie down to socialize?
Because as huge as that thing is at PB, it only seats three...on that front edge. It's like having three sofas, one for each person. Each person can choose to lay back on their own chaise longue, but nobody can get in behind them. Unless you plan on vaulting over the back of the thing. Making it a sofa, a bed, and a jungle gym.
For the price of that item and the space it takes up, I'd choose a nice sofa, and put up the occasional guest at the local hotel.
I may have seen this here on AT somewhere... or elsewhere.. but i think this is a great solution. And it has storage underneath!

A company in Salt Lake City called European Custom Upholstery and Design (801)9449478 has a fabulous sleeper sofa that can be made in any size- full, queen etc,,. It does not need to be pulled away from the wall, the mechanism is from Europe and works easily, the sofa look just like a sofa and has no hidden mattresses!!! In fact there's even storage underneath for blankets etc.. I really love it!
If you find something comparable to the Pottery Barn Pacific 3-piece sofa at a better price - I sure you hope you share it with us..... I'm looking for the same thing!
Thanks!
Kristin
..P.S. Although, I'm not looking at the PB Pacific 2-P sofa to be a sleeper sofa....I'm thinking more of a lounger, read-a-book-in-a-sun-room-kind-of-sofa...
Thanks,

I am looking for a deeper couch as my my children like to lay onthe couch with me and they fall off even if I lay on my side, Did annyone buy one or find one?
Does any one have the Dr. Pitt couch by Mitchell Gold? I wonder who got a great price?
Costco is selling a couch similar to the PB Pacific Sectional Couch. Costco's only comes in cardinal red and there are no options for slipcovers.
Also I've seen the PB Pacific broken up so that one side and the middle were made into an L-shaped sectional. The other couch was used on the other side of the room. It's much more adaptive than what you see in the catalog.
Also, PB is having a 20% off sale on select items and the Pacific Sectional happens to be one of them.
The price is $2,719.00-$3,199.00 depending on fabric.
Compare it to Costco's $1800 version.
I think I totally understand what you are looking 4. My 2 year old son will not sleep in his bed! We have tried EVERYTHING. However he will sleep on the LoveSeat all night long. I'm looking for a bed/Couch that he can sleep on in his room. I do not want a sofa bed, day bed, or a futon. I want a couch that is slightly wider and and has all the functions of a normal couch. I want it to have a coushioned back and sides for support and comfort. Please let me know if anyone has seen anything like this.
Thank you,
Hayden's Mom
I prefer a daybed to a sleeper sofa or futon. A day bed uses a real mattress so if anyone needs to sleep on it it is comfortable. I have NEVER slept well on any fold outs. The only problem with a day bed is it encourages naps!
I have the Charles P. Rogers milan day bed in my office but it is only 33" wide so you can still sit on it. I had to buy the mattress from them, but it was an attractive solution for me.
More modern sofas in a variety of styles at www.loftsofa.com contemporary furniture. They also have very affordable prices.
