Good Questions: Cushions for a Saarinen Tulip Chair?

9-4-saarinen-cushion-1.jpgHey there! I recently bought several of these vintage saarinen tulip knockoff chairs & table. I'd love to get some cushions for them, similar to the ones on some of the other real (& knockoff) versions I've seen. Does anyone know where I could find them, or know of someone they could recommend who could make them?

Thanks a bunch, Chris

HighbrowFurniture.com sells authentic cushions for $279 and they offer a wide variety of upholstery fabrics. Does anyone have any recommendations for less expensive, knock-off cushions?

Any Upholsterer could make you cushions. Its just upholstered foam cushion with zippered cover and you will need to add velcor to secure the cushions in place.

Just take a picture of the Tulip chair with the cushion and take one of your chairs in and have them make the cushions for your chair. I doubt the cushions would be the same specifications as the Tulip because most knock off do vary differently in size, etc.

The cost is in the fabric, if you find an inexpensive fabric you might be able to have a cushion for under 279.00

Find an old one on e-bay (ugly, ripped, who cares). Use a seam ripper to disassemble it, and use the pieces as a pattern. If you don't want to do the sewing, take it to your local seamstress or upholsterer and they should be really inexpensive.

Try here.

It is a shop located in a town right outside of Houston. The Texas version of Pasadena. Their seat cushions are made by a company called Artesia for $89 a piece.

I have a similar chair, without the arms, and I made my own cushion for them.

Purchased vintage prints fabric, batting, padding, and go at it with a sewing machine. Can email you photos if you want.

It cost about $25, so your >$279 is a lot!

If I ever opt for a change, I'm going to make new covers for the cushion in Amy Butler fabrics (~$11 or more/yd). FUN!

Ugh, even trying to find these on eBay is a challenge. I gave up for mine and draped Ikea sheepskins on each. Looks rad and textural. See: http://fotoflat.onsugar.com/1920600
