It's so comfortable, I like to take naps on a sofa.

We got a sectional from carolinachair.com because they will customize anything. Their standard pics aren't all that inspiring, but take a look at their custom pics. You can send them a pic of what you want and they will make it! We changed the length of some of our pieces, but I'm sure they could change the depth too.

When shopping we also saw the Dr Pitt sectional at Mitchell Gold Bob Williams, and that looked just plain loungeable!

I don't have it yet, but Crate and Barrel's Petrie Sofa, if I remember correctly, has over 30" of depth. from front to back of sofa it's 36".

Mine arrives in April in a sexy rust color, called Mineral Red. :)

I was just reading good reviews of the 'track sofa' at cb2, and they also have another one called the 'movie slipcovered sofa' that is supposed to be extra deep. I haven't seen either in person yet, but may be a good place to start. AND in your price range, which is always good.

I agree with the Macy's comment. I recently purchased their corona sofa which has a fairly deep seat, but I am not sure if the back is high enough for the two of you. I was actually really surprised to find they had a really nice selection of contemporary furniture that doesn't all belong in my mom's house. See if you can check out one of their stores with the large furniture section (not all of them have a full section).

The Townsend sofa from Room and Board is very deep and totally comfortable...we bought one this past summer and have been happy with it every day since!
My onle note of caution is to carefully measure your doors- especially if the couch you choose has a tall back as well...there is nothing more depressing than the delivery men walking down the driveway with the couch of your dreams...

Oh I wish I could remember the manufacturer of our couch. My husband is 6'3 and he loves our couch, it has deep seating and he is able to lay down completely on it, and it was well under $1000.

eriika beat me to it. I was gonna recommend C&B's Lounge sofa too. I think it's about 46" deep. I've sat on it in the store and it's sooo comfy! However, the back may not be tall enough for you and your husband (I'm only 5'4, so it was fine for me).

when i tried it out at the showroom, i found the leather ikea stockholm sofa to be very deep.

I have the opposite problem. I'm 5'2" and every sofa I've tried gives me a backache from not enough support. I've propped pillows behind me, but I wind up feeling like Goldilocks in the chair that's too big.

I think many of the click-clack type sofa beds tend to be very deep because they have to turn into full/queen size beds. (Especially any sofas that have a lower back or a gap where the back and the seat meet--since the seat would have to compensate for that by being wider.) Ours is a bit too deep for us but we are not tall people.

me and my 2 herniated discs are with alice... even at 6ft, it was hard to find a properly shallow model. most everywhere (those mentioned above) sell waaay deeper than 24in seats.

I purchased the lounge from crate and barrel and love the deep seating-- even for 6'4 and above, it's a curl up sofa. We got the 94 inch long one, and I think the construction is lacking a little bit. Don't get me wrong, I love the couch, but when you sit, it sags in the middle. we noticed because we have a laptop table where the legs scoot under the couch, and it fits with ease when no one is sitting on it, and doesn't when someone is. So, there's that.

I've seen some very deep couches at Pottery Barn before. I'm not sure what they have now.

I second the Crate & Barrel Lounge sofa. It's 46" deep and very comfy. Worth every penny!

I second the Mitchell Gold Bob Williams suggestion. Just bought their Jordan sectional and its super deep, looooong, and the fabric is awesome.

I just bought a couch from ABC carpet from Cisco Brothers and it is too deep for me, it would be prefect for you.

My feet are about ten inches off the ground when I sit to the back.

Given that you have budget for a good piece of furniture... I suggest calling Room & Board (and ask for Amanda if you can get her). Tell them that you're looking for the most deeply seated couches they have and ask for the measurements. I was shopping for a sofa and almost ordered one that was going to be disappointing for my 5'2" stature, and they helped me select one that would be ideal for me. Their customer service is outstanding. Truly. And you'll get significantly better quality than you would from CB2, West Elm, etc. Mitchell Gold furnishings are great too, but priced higher for the designer name.

I had the Pottery Barn Square Arm sectional sofa for about ten months. I'm 5'4", and just was not deep enough to get my lounge on. It was never comfortable. Ends up that there were some major manufacturing issues and the sofa had to go back -- they gave me a merchandise credit and I got the Manhattan leather sofa and chair-and-a-half (which is really the size of a love seat). Very happy with the new pieces...but they were expensive.

All of this is to say that I would stay away from some of the PB pieces.

Restoration Hardware has a super-wide leather sofa, I have to say, though, that I intensely dislike the way their leather wears. Even tiny fingernail scratches are apparent and over time, the pieces end up looking quite worn -- not the look I want.

Yup, C&B's Lounge sofa is VERY comfy and is incredibly deep, plus it fits in your price range.

The Corona sofa from Macy's is NOT deep and I would not recommend it if you're looking for a loungy sofa. I love mine, though.

It may sound cheap, but the Ikea Kramfors sofa is great. I'ts been on my wishlist for a while. It's in your price range, and fit me (6'2") fantastic. My 5'4" wife wasn't as enthusiastic, but she likes curling up on it. Plus, there are a number of options for it (chaise, love seat, full size, etc.).

Have you looked at the Gus Modern couches? I don't know the specs off the top of my head, but when we tried them out in a local store we found them insanely deep (esp. the sectionals). Not crazy expensive, either, so maybe worth a look?

Macy's does have the Tyler Sofa which is 40" deep and very comfy- and it's way under $1000

We got a Berkely sofa from rowe a few years ago and it's very deep. Also a great deal. I think we ended up paying about $800 dollars for it, which included a discount, but it would have still been affordable. I highly recommend them.

Great question. As a tall person myself, I love these answers. My roommate's "average" size sofa isn't cutting it for me. When I'm able to have my own place, I'm going deep and will keep these resources in mind.

My husband is 6'2" and wanted a sofa where he could lounge lengthwise. We were also on a budget. We bought the Peyton sofa from Ashley Furniture for $899 I think. Yeah, that's right--Ashley. But I love that sofa; it's probably my best furniture purchase ever.

Check out Montauk Sofa (http://www.montauksofa.com)--they're a bit pricey, but definitely well worth it. Amazing fabrics to choose from, down-filled cushions...All of their sofas & chairs can be made to your specifications if you need, say a few extra inches. I purchased the Recanier Lounge 7 years ago and it's absolutely an amazing place to nap! Oh, and another bonus is that all sofas/lounges/chairs come with a custom-made white canvas slipcover, which is a great way to change things up a bit!

I went to the DWR annex a couple of weeks ago and they have great couches under 2k. I really liked one that was very deep, contemporary looking and made with fabric.
the anexx is in secaucus, NJ but it's worth a visit. I wish I had known about it before I bought all my furniture!

Do check out the Axis sofa at Crate and Barrel... that wasy my husband's pick for a comfy sofa (he is 6'2").

I'm only 5'2" and my solution was to get a pair of chairs (we got the Gigi from Room and Board) for better back support.

Comfort is in the rear of the beholder. I am a 6ft tall gal, and I hate a sofa that is too deep. I just got rid of a Restoration Hardware sofa that was 44" deep because it was impossible for me to get comfortable on it. I like enough room to curl up, but I want to be able to sit upright too without my legs sticking out like Edith Ann.
