I'd like to hang some ceiling-to-floor drapes to hide my ugly and uneven bedroom closet doors. I've seen your hardware recommendations (How To: Hang Curtains Across Any Space) but I wanted to know what kind of fabric I should shop for.
I'm trying to go for that Delano/Shore Club look where the fabric is sheer but not too sheer, and is heavy enough to drape nicely. Any idea what I should be looking for?
Thanks! Carmen

Love these huge lanterns on the conceret floor. West Elm had these, pretty cheap, if anyones looking for this look on a budget.
The other key to how they hang (oh my!) may be in weighted bottom hems. Drapery supply and sewing stores generally carry them, I think.
Love those photos? Where are they from/what are they of?
I saw those lanterns in silver at the Bronx Botanical Gardens Gift Shop the other day. They are GORGEOUS but pretty expensive.

Those lanterns (and the great ones via th elink you provided, anne) remind me of the gorgoeus Casamidy lanterns showcased here on AT a while back...

(anne-- I think the pics are of Aouth Beach's style-mecca, the Delano Hotel)
and by Aouth I mean South...
Another hanging option is using "hospital track" from the ceiling... a great clean, architectural look.
The top pic is of the Shore Club, the bottom is of the Delano. Both have very high ceilings.
At a job I had a few years back we used a fabric in our trade show booth that would have been perfect. It was sheer but durable. Not flimsy at all. It was also flame-resistant. I don't recall the name of the fabric but if you do some searching on a terms like "trade show fabric", you may turn something up.
I only have experience with fabrics available to home sewers...Cotton voile and handkerchief linen are both sheer without being totally "see-through," and have a certain amount of body, or crispness (and can be machine washed if don't mind ironing). For sheers, don't skimp on fabric; dense gathers look best. Sheer silk is great if if won't be exposed to sunlight.
Rosebrand is a great source for all kinds of fabric and hardware.

For weighting the drapes, as Patrick suggests, choose the fabric you want (silk/wool or silk/cotton are good suggestions), then sew into the bottom hem round metal washers. You can get them at any hardware store cheap and they help the fabric drape nicely. You may want to double up the fabric only on the hem, so you don't see the washers through the fabric.
The lantern pictured above are not casamidy lanterns. We were contacted by Morgans to design an improved lantern which could be easily cleaned. These models can now be seen at the Shore Club and Hudson as well as a blackened version at the KWID designed Viceroy hotels. You can view thye lanterns in detai at www.casamidy.com under LANTERNS.

What type of durtain rod is used to hang floor-to-ceiling drapes like in the Delano or Mondrian hotels? How are they attached? And where can I find theses rods?
Does anyone know where I can actually purchase the "casamidy" lanterns?? Thanks!!
I would like to hang (Victorian styling) velvet or velour drapes from the ceiling to the floor to create a room inside a room. I envision some kind of brass hardware similar to bar rails. Am I nuts? Where could I find the hardware??? Thanks.
Does anyone know where to get hospital track curtains or get them made which would be of a more attractive and stylish fabric, like voile or linen? Any tips?
