Hello AT,
I'm installing sliding closet doors in my apartment, and i found these on some random site, and I really like the way they've done it.
I need hardware and/or some tips on how to do this sort of thing? Where can i find a similar installation? I've been checking CL and ebay constantly but can't find anything.
thanks, eric

Check out this site: http://www.johnsonhardware.com/
Google "barn door" +hardware.
That's what this type of door system is called.
I've used these before - Sliding Barn doors, or "Wall Mount", listed on teh Johnson site. I believe they have a version of this at Home Depot, galvanized metal, not as posh as your picture....
Found the source:
Click "Flat Track"

Hafele or Stanley makes sliding door hardware. Your contractor should be able to select the correct hardware depending on the weight of the door and adapt it to customize whatever kind of "found" door you chose.
Hi all, thanks for the responses, but im actually looking for the doors, not the hardware. I pulled the pic off the crown industrial website where i purchased the track, but i love lose doors and cant find them anywhere.
That's a tougher question! Have you tried salvage places? Like this place takes the stuff that people rip out when they remodel and make it available to the rest of us.

I think what you want to do is check architectural salvage places. One example Oldhouseparts.com. It's located in Maine, but I believe you could order online. They do have a pair of doors that look similar to what you are looking for... I think. Click on my name to go there.
Good luck in your search!
try demolition depot

Local salvage places will most likely have more standard pieces, oak doors, hollow core doors etc. The doors in the photo are vintage, probably imported. A quick ebay search for 'salvage door' brought this up

Or check with local import places, ABC Home carries doors from India too. But you're not going to find those exact doors, if you want those exactly, have your contractor build them.
Olde Good Things
They have a location in Chelsea and Greenwhich Village and have an amazing selection of found objects. Click my name for the website. They are very friendly and helpful.
wow, some great places i have to go check out. thanks so much. Sarah, those doors are amazing, i wonder how much they will sell for.
You may want to email or fax the photo of the door to Material Culture here in Philly. They have a 70,000sf showroom filled with all kinds of salvaged and ethnic goodies. Hand-carved opium bed? Yes, they have them :) It's a fascinating place. They made have simpler doors as well.

As others have mentioned, salvage places are great resources. I've also had amazing luck contacting local door and window contractors (the ones who specialize in replacement services). If it's not important that the doors be exactly 6'-8", you can pickup vintage doors with a bit of dry rot at the bottom or with a dog door cut out for free or next to nothing. I've trimmed doors, covered up the dog doors with metal or wood.
can you tell me where you found the hardware? does anyone sell pre-made flat track door hardware in manhattan, or do i have to go thru a contractor or order from somewhere?
