Any advice for Nancy?
Yes the look works, but too much Pottery Barn! It is like the episode of friends with Rachel and Phoebe.

There should be something shared between pieces -- leg shape, color, decorative touches, style. If the chair's upholstry was similar to the table's dark color, or the table legs were square like those of the chair, or both had nailhead trim ...

Both styles are copies of what has been around a long time and will work together.
My concern would be will that chair seat bottom out? I the construction and quality of their chairs are poorly made. If you plan on having the chairs for a long time this would be something to think about.

I think its just going to be waaaaaay too much nailhead trim if you've got 6 of those chairs around the table. Personally I like contrast - I'd go much more streamlined and simple on the chairs to play against the turned legs of the table.

Personally I would opt for a lighter chair. The whole look is going to be very heavy and solid. Perhaps that's what you're after, though. My preference would be for a chair with less heft which would act as a contrast to the table. I would also suggest you make sure there is enough leg room between the table and chair -- I like to lean back and cross my legs for post-dinner conversation and was disappointed when I found that I couldn't do that with my otherwise beautiful new Room & Board dining table and chairs!

Phoebe: That fan kinda looks like ours. And the birdcage and the....wait a sec! This is our exact living room!
Rachel: No! No! No! No itâs not! No itâs not! Come on! Phoebe, ours is totally different! I mean we donât have the...(Looks desperately for something different.) We donât have the...that lamp! And-and that screen is yâknow, on the other side.
Phoebe: Oh my God. This is where you got all our stuff, Pottery Barn! Oh my God!
Rachel: Okay! Okay-okay lookâno I did, I just wanted this stuff and I know how you feel about Pottery Barn. Just... Come on donât be mad.
Phoebe: No-no-no, but I am mad! I am mad! Because this stuff is everything that is wrong with the world! And itâs all sitting up in my living room and all I can think about is how I donât have that lamp!

LoriSF knows what she's talking about; we bought a PB chair with the intention of reupholstering it and a good thing too--the upholsterer said the webbing was so poorly fastened we'd have fallen through in a matter of months!

It is not matchy enough or different enough. The leg wood is a different color, and not matching. The styles are both conservative, but not in the same way.
It is just 'off'.
In white leather with a different chair leg I could do it.

nancy - depending on how big your room is, i think these two pieces are too chunky together. i would try to find something simpler for one of the two items ...

I think it looks fine - I'm not at all concerned about the differing wood tones, leg shape, etc., but those chairs are pretty blah...
...but there are much better options for chairs out there - and they're NOT from Pottery Barn.
Example: The Sylvia Chairs from Mitchell Gold:

...or the Arden Camelback Chairs

Do you like it or not? Obviously, it "goes" in the sense that some store designer felt it would help sell the pieces. But do you like it? Do YOU think it's off balance or do YOU think it's fabaloo? Trust your gut! If you feel iffy, then it does it "go" for you.

Thanks Mally313 for the Friends dialogue about Pottery Barn! Awesome.

It's inelegant. Don't like it. Not one bit.

Too trendy. It will be hopelessly dated in about 18 months.

I must have missed this "trend", J. Cipa...this look is all wrong. I like the warm upholstery with the rich dark wood, but everything else is just...well, it makes ME think of Smelly Cat!

Sure as heck don't work for me. If you gotta ask then you already have your answer.

The rule of thumb is not you mix wood finishes... the chair looks like it is finishes in light varnish and the table look like high gloss... all woods go well together but keep the wood finish the same...
