Hello AT,
I recently the latest 'Good Question' where someone is looking for information on a bed and an alternative here in the States. The question sparked a search that I had abandoned long ago for being futile- but that was before I found AT.
I was looking for a new vanity in our master bathroom, and there were some specific requirements. We needed something small and compact, but also wanted dual vanities. After looking here in the States, all I could find were 60 inch monstrosities and knew that wasnt going to work...

After some searching I found a company in the UK called Westwood and the unit that caught my eye was the Westwood 1000- it is compact, it is stylish, it has dual vanities, and its only in the UK. Bummer- after talking to the company they said shipping to the States would be VERY cost prohibitive, and since I was on a budget, I agreed with him. Is there anything this compact available for here in the states?
Thanks for the help! Ryan
Dear Ryan,
We totally get it. That is a great vanity/sink combo and one we'd never realized was so rare.
We don't have a silver bullet, but we did find this attractive IKEA lookalike - Vattern - but it doesn't have two faucets.
Barring this we think the best thing to do is find the sink and then get a vanity made to support it (or buy a table and retrofit it).
Does anyone have a great resource for sinks like this?
Lacava has something, but it's not quite what you want because it has 2 basins. It is only 42 or so inches wide, though. Click on my name for the link.
Duravit also has one which is much closer to the one you liked. It is just over 39" wide and has a single large basin. Click on my name for the link.
Here is another site (click on name) with nice square sinks that you could easily turn into a customized double vanity.
Thanks for bringing up this topic, I have a very tiny bathroom and never dreamed of two sinks...until now!
Ryan,
I believe the design industry standards for double vanities are around 60"-70". This is probably based on the idea of everything looking proportionate and that two people getting ready at the same time each need their own space to spread things out and be comfortable. I guess more vain = more vanity.
But the basin with two taps you showed above are out there but not very common. They are also pretty expensive. If it's a 49" or less vanity you are looking for though, you will have no problem finding one. And if you want to put a sink with two taps on it, that should not be a problem either. If you want to put two vessels on it and you like the way it looks, go for it. Just do lots of measuring and sketching before you purchase so you are comfortable with what you are getting.
Fixtureuniverse.com and Modernbathroom.com both have many selections in many different sizes, styles and manufacturers. Home Depot and Lowe's have also got very basic cabinet vanities like this one.
I can relate to you finding it to be much more comfortable finding what you like on a European site, especially in the U.K. Bathstore.com is amazing. They have a great selection, they have a really nice site, multiple locations and lots of sales.
Wow, I'm actually in search of the same thing. I want a double sink, but the console/suface can't be more than 48" wide. the Ikea vattern idea is tempting, but I am looking for something that can accomodate two faucets.
Ryan, I am also considering a surface upon which I'd install two floating sinks (such as a floating wood top, or cabinet). that gives us the flexibility to adjust for whatever space we have. You can click on my name for an example, and just double the sink.
good luck!
Hi,
New devotee here..
Had the same dilemma not too long ago for my bathroom. I haven't had the chance to actually redo my bathroom yet, but this back-to-back vanity by Villeroy-Boch was an interesting option.
The vanity is called "Private Lounge"

Hi again,
If you check out www.villeroy-boch.com, look for "Private Lounge" under "Bathroom Furniture" to see the vanity that will fit below the back-to-back washbasin. I've seen it in a showroom, it's zebrawood veneer, I think.
I'm thinking of using the washbasin with custom-designed vanity to replace my circa 1978 back to back vanity/double sink extravaganza.. complete with icky poured-marble goodness.. Can't wait to do the demo!
Good Luck.

Why not purchase a farmhouse sink, have a console built to hold it and wall mount two faucets?
i saw a similar (if not the same) sink in gracious home on third ave just the other day. i just happened to notice it, so didn't check the pricing nor who made it.
Wow!
I would like to thank everyone for all of their input and help! I thought my search was a lost cause but some of the suggestions look very promising and I will definately look into them.
I also must say it makes me feel good that I wasnt the only one with this same problem- I guess misery loves company :-).
Thanks again!!
I just ordered this dual sink for my new bathroom. It is 48 inches.
