Good Questions: Duvet Cover For Our Tropical Blue Room?

11.27duvet.jpgHello AT,

We recently purchased a king down comforter and it's wonderful, but it's a plain white comforter. We're looking for a duvet cover and we can't find anything we agree on.

IKEA didn't have anything we both liked, West Elm, nothing, we even tried CB2...

We're looking for something bright and beautiful. Our bedroom is a tropical blue color. We have dark wood furniture. We're also care for two cats who shed a lot so bright patches of white are not a good thing. We'd like something we can get online as well.

Thanks! Meagan

Try Garnet Hill. They have some really great duvet covers, and they aren't too expensive! Nice soft percale!

Costco has some great ones. I like the Kirkland 500 thread count ... MANY colors to choose from...and ~$60 for king sized i believe.

I'd recomend not getting any sheets/beddings at ikea, it feels scratchy on the skin, go with sheets of higher thread counts...they make a big difference. You wouldn't want to slurg on a nice bed and then buy poor quality sheets...to sleep under.

I recently came across this sheet set at Macy's and it felt quite soft. They have a duvet cover, and also a comforter. There is a different pattern on each side of the cover/comforter. I don't really like the pattern that is shown in the picture and prefer the other pattern. If you look at the portion of the comforter that is folded over, you can kind of see the other pattern. It is also the same one being shown on the throw pillow above it.

There is also bed bath and beyond, overstock.com, even macys has been having really great bedding sales lately. Unforunately, if you want quality (high thread count) you'll have to pay a bit more especially since you are looking for King Size. But a quality duvet (500 tc or over) will run you at least $85-125 in my area

Hi there...I'm new to Apt. Therapy but wanted to mention www.bluefly.com as a great source for high-quality linens and duvets at great prices. I've never been dissatisfied with a Bluefly purchase, and their return policy is stellar.

If you like heavy cotton (which I personally love, especially in winter), there's a company called Bed, which specializes in making high-quality, affordable, custom bedding. The website doesn't do the colours justice. Most of the fabrics are hand-dyed, and the pigments are fabulous -- rich yet subtle. I can attest to the quality of their work. They made me a duvet cover and pillowcases a couple of years ago (I think the entire set cost less than $200), and they've held up extremely well.

The company's located in Vancouver, but they ship.

Wow, with that many conditions on a duvet cover, how did you ever pass each others test??

I love Dwell linens. Modern with a flair--and they often have sales. Or you could "google" Dwell and find other sites that carry the line on sale.

And Lulu DK has beautiful fabric that can be made into duvets. It came to mind when you mentioned "tropical"...but alas, not cheap!

Im the self proclaimed biggest fan of High Fashion Home and they carry a line called "Dream Sacks" and "Inhabit Living". Dream Sacks is more luxurious looking - gold tones, ivory etc, where as InHabit is more fashion foward and unique in thier sets.

My set is from Inhabit Living. You can buy retail or direct - I have no idea on price difference. Online is going for $210 for King.

Rhythm in Chocolate is the name of the set

Dream Sack's website doesn't do their products justice and their site's e-commerce features aren't as user friendly as most so you be the judge.

Well the other alternative is to just choose two sheets that you like and coordinate with each other and stitch them together. Duvet covers are not rocket science. Sew 3 sides fully and a bit at each corner on the 4th side, add some closures to the remainder of the 4th side and you are done. The closures can be anything from ribbons you will tie (probably not a good idea with kitties), buttons with holes or loops, to Velcro. You could also just make the opening on the 4th side fairly small, which would require a bit of maneuvering to get the comforter in but no actual closures.
