Good Questions: Glass Companies in NYC?

11.16glass.jpgHello AT,

I'm refurbishing a door in my apartment and I'm missing a couple panes of textured glass. The hitch is that the glass is similar to the picture to the left.

I'm wondering is there a glass company in NYC that I can buy from? I'd rather not pay for shipping and the possibility of the glass breaking in transit from Illinois. Thanks! Stephanie

The best place I have found is Manhattan Stined Glass. It is on Leonard Street and run by a guy named 'Tommy G.' He is like the Superman of glass cutting.

Anyways, pretty sur ethey have a website and they can help locate the type of pressed glass if it is in production - or might know where to get it if it's not.

Hi,

We used United Glass to replace antique floral glass in our doors (just like your picture). They did a great job. They are located in Astoria. Hope this helps!

And if they do not have it, there is always the massive Bendheim warehouse in New Jersey, which seems to have almost any type of glass by the sheet that you would ever want. Their website is http://www.bendheim.com/ -

and the website for Manhattan Stained Glass is http://www.manhattanstainedglass.com/

Capitol Glass in the West Village - they've been around for ages & are quick & affordable. Nice folks, too!

Most glass shops carry this type of glass. I believe it's called "Florentine". I've purchased panes of it from the glass shop on 5th Ave near Bergen St in Brooklyn (just a few blocks from Target).

Definitely *don't* go with United Glass. UNITED GLASS IS TERRIBLE. United Glass scheduled appointments with me, never showed up, then lied to me (Tony) on the phone about how they were at my apartment (maybe they had invisibility cloaks on?) and then promised to call me back (Christina) but never did. My neighbor also experienced no- shows and a poorly installed glass shower that flooded his bathroom. United Glass made appointments to return and fix the damage but, per usual, never showed up. I recommend working with professionals, not United Glass.
