Hello AT,
We need a shelf to go near the TV to hold books and artsy things. I am looking for a shelf that can be a piece of art and probably not plain wood colored since the rest of the room is pretty neutral in color. I really like this S Bookcase from West Elm.
The ceilings are very high as well so we could do a shelving unit that is tall, but slender – I don’t want a squared-off look for the shelf since the room is arranged that way, and the table in the center is rectangle.
Should I do the S Bookcase and/or do you have any other ideas? I’m trying to stay under $600.
Thanks! Erin

Another possibility is a single puzzle shelf from Crate and Barrel --

i also like the west elm grid on casters - easy to
move around and can function as a wall divider. it is under $600 and available on their website.
I too adore that s-shelving, but does it look as good filled with books?
Thanks for the comments everyone! I actually ended up going with this reversible shelf from crate and barrel:

we might buy a 2nd one to put next to it if we decide to add on, but just one of these looks great, holds a few books, and is aesthetically pleasing to boot!

You seem like you like the modern look, so I think you should check out the Adjustable 4-Shelf Audio Rack at Modern Furniture - www.emassive.com. I have one and I think it looks great, and its affordable.
Here's the link, for some reason, it didn't work in the previous posting; http://www.emassive.com/Furniture/Furniture_by_Type
FYI - I have the west elm s bookshelf (in white) - stuffed with books and candles and paintings i havent framed - looks awesome - love the bookshelf :-)
Nothing beats the 606 shelving system by Vitsoe (www.mossonline.com for more info), but it's unfortunately out of your budget. Just had to throw that in there for context.
good
I bought several West Elm pieces a few years ago. They are really cheap, and the veneer is the poorest quality I've ever seen. Scratches VERY easily and will also chip.....you can do better for your money. Don't be tempted by their unique designs.....Others offer better quality and better prices.
