Good Questions: Good Spray Paint for This Table?

12-12-tablequestion.jpgHello AT,

I own a table very similar to the one pictured but it does not have the same sheen on the metal. I am looking for a spray paint to make the metal have high gloss sheen. Simple metallic spray paints look
cheap....any suggestions?

Thanks, Heather

Forget the paint. Go get it chromed. It's not very expensive and will give you the look you're going for.

take it to a car body shop and have them paint it professionally for you.

Tom's right. That's the way to go. No. It's not cheap, but it will be gorgeous and permanent. That's what I did with my old-timey built-in clothes hamper in my bathroom, except that I had mine done in black.

Juli is right, have it chromed.

Thanks so much for the idea...I really never thought about having it chromed (obviously). I loved the one from Room & Board so when I saw the same table for fifty at a yard sale I had to pick it up. Now I can spend the money on the chroming.

Juli - where does one get something chromed? I have a fireplace screen that needs some help. Thanks!

Deb-I googled it here in Richmond (VA). I just typed in chroming Richmond and several locations came up. Most dealt with car and machine parts, but all could do the job. Take Care-

Can any metal be chromed? I have a gunmetal-gray metal basket chair that I've always thought would look better as a high-gloss red or turquoise. But chroming sounds good, too... can that be done even on darker, cheap metals?

Metal Plating is certainly the way to go, but here are the considerations:

Very few platers use chrome anymore. Of course, it's still in use but everyone now prefers Nickel- either polished or satin. Nickel is easier for the plater, because waste disposal from chromium is way too expensive and sometimes legally prohibitive to do.

Anyway, google up "metal finishers" in your area. They will give you a price for the plating, but remember you will also have to pay a "Vat Charge" which is kind of like a set up cost. Good Luck- Nice Table!!!
