Hello AT,
I'm hoping readers out there can help answer some questions for me...I've been looking for a good table that can tuck away, or serve the purpose of both coffee table and dining table. The Hydra up/down table would be great, the $1000 price tag is tough to swallow.
In searching, I came across this table at City Schemes (a high end contemporary furniture shop in Boston), for which you can remove the glass, and then bundle the legs up together...

I did an internet search and also saw it at Target online (yes, Target!) My questions are:
1) is this in fact the same table at both stores? It sure looks like it.
2) Does it have anything to do with the company that makes the Hydra hydraulic lift table?
3) Does anyone have this? Does it stand up to moderate use?
Thanks! Mary
Dear Mary,
We don't know if these are the same table, but if they look the same and the price tag is similar, it's a good chance that they are the same. It doesn't look adjustable like the Hydra however, so you'll only be able to use it as a dining table.
The Hydra folks don't have anything to do with this. They only work with their hydraulic design.
Does it stand up? It looks simple enough and worthy. If you are willing to do the work of setting it up and putting it away, it seems perfect for your situation.
Anyone else???
I wouldn't call City Schemes high end. I know the store well and have bought things from them in the past. I've found the workmanship shoddy.
I can't get a good handle on the size of the table, but looks like it would be difficult to "tuck away". Storing a glass top without damage might be problematic as well.
I have one from Straight from the Crate, but in black wrought iron. It's about 15 years old, survived 2 moves and remains in peachy condition. I've stored it underneath my bed and in a closet without incident. Just make sure you cover the glass with a blanket to avoid scratches. I checked to see if C&B still carries it and this is as far as I got:

Hope it helps. Btw, I'm currently re-furnishing and the table and its matching 4 chairs are on their way out. You're welcome to them if you'd like.
I think I have the exact same table (hard to tell for sure from photo)... I bought it at http://www.inspirationinteriors.com/ just over a year ago, and don't recall paying more than about $350 Canadian for it....
We have never tried to store it or fold it, although the glass just rests on top of the legs, so I guess it wouldn't be out of the question.
We have the Mascotti table. We picked ours from Jensen-Lewis. We have been using it for 2 years now with no issues. We use it as a coffee table and when needed as a dining table. However it cannot be tucked away.

I actually have this dining table it seats four quite comfortably. It looks larger than the table from Target.
I've loved this table, have had mine for about 3 years, and it's held up very well.
The glass is quite heavy and fairly large though, so I don't know if you would want to be moving it around quite a bit. That said, you definitely could fold up the legs, wrap the glass in a blankie and stow it it under a bed, but it seems like a little bit of a hassle.
I can't imagine using it as a coffee table, though, because the height is not adjustable.
Just my two cents! Best of luck!
We just did some posting on a similar question over in SF. Lots of ideas there:

Eurway.com sells the Hydra table for $98. Although I can't vouch for this table, I did purchase a coffee table and a bed from Eurway and have been VERY satisfied. They will also tell you who the manufacturer is if you want to compare it to the $1000 table you're looking at.
I agree with Design Dabler that City Schemes is NOT high end. The quality of their stuff is average. I've seen similar tables at Economy Hardware for $200, although they do not seem to have glass topped tables on their website now. http://www.citylivingstores.com/cgi-bin/category/260
My friend brought her dinning room table and chairs from City Schemes. As she was loading one of the chairs into her car, she noticed it have a scratch on it, so she returned it. They did not have another in stock, but they promised to get her a new one. Two years later, she still doesn't have a replacement chair nor a refund. They claimed her husband and she damaged the chair while loading it into the car.
Don't shop there.

Same table for under 200 bucks.
