Good Questions: Great Futon Slipcovers?

5-9-quest1.jpgHello AT,

I hate futons. However, as a poor college student with limited space, a futon really was the most practical option. I tried to get the least futon-y one I could find, which meant an armless model with no frame. Despite my best efforts, it still screams "futon!" My question is: are there any slipcovers out there that might fit this microsuede monstrosity?...

It converts into a full-size bed, but the slipcover need not reflect this. If anyone could suggest a resource, it would be difference! Although inexpensive would be best, this would make such a huge difference I'd be willing to splurge a little bit (keep in mind a "splurge" for a college student is still not that much money. Also, this futon only cost $299, so it would be ridiculous to spend that much on an accessory for it). I promise to post pictures after I finish my cure. Thank you!

Yours,
Samantha

P.S.- I have gotten new pillows and painted the walls since taking this photo, so, while still undisputably ugly, it is now slightly less so.

Dear Samantha,

We dug down in our archives and came up with these good links:

Our archives (and search function) work well and are always worth a try first.

Anyone else?

Okay! I saw this and then it went away.

Here is where I got mine (and the one I got):

But these places seem nice, as well :

I actually think it's one of the better ones I've seen! Decent neutral color and I think you made a great choice with the armless model.

If you've already upgraded the pillows, I'd just focus your efforts on the surrounding area. Lose the marroon throw, get some great art above it so that's where your eye goes, along with some nice (inexpensive) side tables with a good lamp and some interesting "objets..."

I really wouldn't sweat the futon cover.

But do share your photos!

Thanks for posting my question and your quick responses, but the real reason I needed to ask is because my futon poses a unique dilemma. Since it is a solid piece, without a frame, regular futon covers will not work. Since it is armless, most couch covers will not work. I was hoping someone could direct me to a cover made for an armless couch, maybe with a skirt. Does that make sense?
Thanks in advance!

Wow, some of the ones in tonic living make me want to have a futon. Pretty.

I'd say that even putting some things around the futon (side tables, i.e. - maybe something on wheels so that it could be a night table) would make it seem like a really fancy couch.

But I'm a student too, and tend to not notice obvious futon-ness. (A lot of people don't - our bed frame is an old futon frame, and no one has said anything in neither bedroom nor SCC photos!)

Good luck on the cure!

I have the same problem with a futon from ikea. I do regret acquiring it but it was the only solution at the time.
I also haven't got a clue of what to do with it and yours is really nice compared to mine.
Best of luck!
