Hello AT,
I've just found an old piece of furniture on the web to use in my new living room and I was wondering if you could orientate me on how to improve its looks. I was considering changing its black wood legs to metal chrome ones. Do you think its worth the effort?
Thanks! Marcos

Absolutely. If you can find someone to make a base with very angular square legs, go for it. Otherwise I would just polish it real well and maybe hire a professional to lacquer it? The grain of the wood is AMAZING.
I am actually on the hunt myself for a similar piece (width only 27" tho) and am going to do just that, change to stainless steel legs from a workshop in Astoria.

I'd keep it as is - it's beautiful! Just a little polish, then I'd leave it alone. You can go more modern with any/everything else near and on it (lamp, rug, accessories) - it will blend in well.
(The only thing I'd change is the "it's" to "its" in the question title - but I'm a known pain in the ass with regard to apostrophes...)

helloat, at least you didn't say "apostrophewise"

I like the legs too.

I vote for "as is."
And that would have been "apostrophe-wise." :)

I'm with the clean and polish but don't change group. great grain on the facade.

As-is.
I think the piece would look nicer on a rug (instead of fighting with the squares on the floor in the photo). I'm assuming the photo is from the listing, though.

I think it would be easier to repaint the legs instead of changing them - getting someone to custom-make new legs is going to be a chore. If you really want a metallic look to balance out the wood, what about applying silver leaf? It won't be a very industrial/70's look - more deco - but would be very pretty, and not hard at all to do by yourself.

Clean it with something gentle (like Murphy's Oil Soap) and then polish it with Butcher's Wax, which will really bring out the beauty of the grain.

Leave it alone. It is beautiful as it is. Work with the furnishings around it- if you want to change up the look of the space.

I love the black legs. They don't need to be changed.

Thank you all for your answers, very helpful indeed.- Yes, the pic is from the listing.- I think Iâll keep it as it is. And also thank you for your understanding with the apostrophe situation.- Non-english speaker here ;)

I like it just as it is. I would just polish it up and not change a thing.

Leave as is, or with a little polish. This will look great against a yellow wall or rug.

Marcos, hello! And congrats on your great piece - and your wonderful English. It is a sick compulsion that forces me to point such minor, ridiculous things out... a compulsion that I try again and again to treat with copious amounts of wine, but obviously with no noticeable effect (yet). I promise to keep trying.

wait, patrick -the rule is there are no other "-wises" other than otherwise and likewise.

I had a colleague once who misused "wise" all the time. Once, when describing how to pack for an outdoor event, she said: "poncho-wise, you should prepare for rain." It was hilarious.
(At this same event, someone kept referring to the "boxed breakfastses" we would have in the morning...cracked me up...)
