Good Questions: How To Refinish My Marble Table?

Hello AT,

This coffee table is my most recent craigslist find. I'm planning on
refinishing the legs, since they're a little banged up. The marble top, however, has me confused...

From afar, it looks pristine, but up close, it has some blemishes. They look like water marks. How do you take care of marble, and do I need to refinish the top? Do I need to use coasters on it?

Thanks, brittanykate

Dear Brittanykate,

Marble is a beautiful but a porous stone that DOES need to be taken care of or it can stain and blemish.

That said, with a coffee table like this it is relatively easy to take care of (kitchen counters are worse) and we don't think you'll need coasters if you take care of it.

Defnitely do your research before you "refinish" the top.

There are a lot of quick fix marble finishes out there and some of them will ruin the stone in the long run.
