Good Questions: I Need a Table For My Light Eames Chairs?

1-22-eamesash.jpgHello AT,

I have six Eames DCM Chairs in light ash along with three kids. I need a durable table - I love the Big Sur Dining Table at Crate and Barrel but am worried about the finishes/wood species not complimenting each other. Any recommendations?

Gracias, Lisa

Dear Lisa,

The Big Sur table is a beauty and should work well with your light ash chairs. You could also look at these two:

XPand Tables
Kyoto Table

Both are very nice and would work.

Anyone else??

We just got our Big Sur table on Friday. In the room with the table, we have dark, walnut flooring, bookcases in maple, and cherry wood chairs. We were worried about all the different woods, but we needn't be. The contrasts between the wood just did not stand out. What stood out was the massive-ness of the big sur table - it's an attention grabber. So, your chairs should work well with the table.

I've always liked the clean lines and slightly rustic look of the Big Sur dining table. I think it's a great match with modern chairs - I say go for it!

Depending on the age of your kids, you may also want to consider one of the expandable tables from Calligaris available at Jensen Lewis, amongst other places - many models come in glass with metal legs and center leaves in a similar light ash color to your chairs.

If your kids are younger, I realize that may not be such a great fit! In that case, you might look into steel tables as well - the surface is a lot easier to maintain/harder to damage than wood.

why not bring a piece of wood close to the finish of your chairs in to the store to see what they look like under the same lighting? sometimes you can get pieces of wood in diff finishes from hardware stores. chances are, it'll look fine. you'll feel better about your purchase seeing it together though.
