Why not put them side by side to create one large rug?

I would try putting them in the hallway or entryway. Also try in the kitchen, in front of the sink. Or if you have a narrow kitchen, in the center of the room. Hope that helps.

If you could use a much larger rug, I'd call up some places that sell carpet scraps bound as cheap rugs and see if they had anything in a complimenting neutral color in a larger size (cream or light blue might border this pattern nicely). Cut out a 3x5 section of the interior of the rug (the carpet installers should be able to help you with this) and insert one of your West Elm rugs, joining the two rugs together on the back with tape.

Hi, I like to keep a nice 3x5 rug in front of the kitchen sink, especially in winter. Another good place is in an entryway. I also wonder if you could put the two together, maybe duck tape them on the back to have one large rug.

What about the bathroom?

Hang them on an office wall - use as a bulletin board if the pile is thick enough to hold thumbtacks.

All of the ideas above are good, but if none of them seem to work for you... I say sell the rugs ('less they have sentimental reasons). I don't like trying to 'fit' things where they might not belong - plus you can use the money to either purchase a larger rug or something else.

I vote putting the two together (if they match up well) and making them a large area rug for the living room.

I had a 3x5 rug in the hallway between my front door and the living room. It helped to eliminate dust and dirt from being tracked in.

In my new apartment I put the same rug between a folded up futon couch thing and my television to define the television watching nook.

With the two you have: there is no law against putting two rugs next to each other with a small space (maybe a foot or so) between them.
