Good Questions: Identify this Chair?

1-28-cool-chair.jpg
Hey Apartment Therapy! I've got a chair here that I'd love to reupholster. It was snatched up from under a dealer who desperately wanted it, but I made the kill. However the faded mustard yellow just isn't happening in my place. I think some new fabric (or even leather) would complement it well, but I don't want to potentially ruin what could be a rare find. I've checked with dealers all over my area, but no one seems to know anything about it. Its got a hint of mid-century with some late 70's appeal. Might you or your readers provide any clues? Many thanks! Alex

Sort of has a Karl Springer vibe to it. Maybe look into some of the pieces he designed as a starting point?

funny, I saw a pair of those somewhere online the other day....now I can't figure out where. Sorry, I know that doesn't really help, but if I figure out where I saw them, I'll post it.

I think it's a Gastone Rinaldi Chrome chair (or in the style of that designer). Italian designer from the 1970's
Your chair has a the same feel.

If it is a Gastone Rinaldi that chair is worth serious $$$$$. Send out only the cushions, not the chair.

A set of Gastone Rinaldi chrome dining room chairs are going for over $5,000. on eBay!

Yes, leather is what the original cushions would have been.
But not taloried looking leather, Puffy looking leater cushion was popular.
Sometimes they used Naugahyde instead of leather,
(we now called it Pleather), it will tuft nicely.
The cushion from that era would have been tufted.

Also popular for that era, was plush fuzzy fabric on a chair like that. Like a stuffed toy fuzzy fabric.
Crazy ugly !

not the post I was thinking of, but here's what I think the original upholstry should look like. I can't vouch for the maker, though. I enetered STENDIG in Google and didn't get anything close. Plus, if their spelling of vinyl is anything to go by, they might be slightly off on the spelling of other important details ;o)
