I am fairly knowledgeable about mid-century modern and Danish modern furniture and I don't think that your chair is of much value. It looks to me like an American design from the mid- to late-seventies. The single welt with the tucked corners on the seat and ottoman cushions is one giveaway. The way the armrests are upholstered is another. It looks like something sold in a small chain furniture store of that era.

It is similar to some well-known designs, though. Your friend who thinks he saw it on Antiques Roadshow probably saw something close to it. They tend to all look alike if you aren't familiar with the genre.

The chair to me looks like it could be monteverdi-young, or something of that nature. Your best bet would be to turn the chair over and look for the stamp on the bottom of the chair. Most designers mark their original pieces so that they can't be confused with replicas.

I'm pretty sure it's an Eeemes. I think it was made by IKEEYA.

American - Yes.
Especially noteworthy or valuable - No.

I like it better than the Eames lounge chair.

I also thought my friend might be mistaking it for an Eames lounge chair, but he assured me he wasn't.

It looks like it's "early psychologists office" a la Bob Newhart. I love it. In fact I covet it.

I don't know anything about designer chairs, but I do like this chair a lot!

I sold one of these a few months back (here:http://sitandreadfurniture.blogspot.com/2009/02/leather-mid-century-lounge-chair.html) . I never could identify it. It was definitely American made though, probably early 70's, a very comfortable chair, but not worth very much.

Definitely late 60s-70s era, and though likely not worth much, would look awesome in a den. I like the Eames design too, as others have referenced, but with all the knockoffs (check out http://hubpages.com/hub/--Eames-Lounge-Chair-and-Ottoman ) I would rather have one like this that has its own individual twist than a "me-too"
