Good Questions: Inexpensive Rug Pad?

10-3-persian-rug.jpgI have a Persian rug in my living room that's attractive, but doesn't offer much cushion on my hardwood floors for sitting and noise dampening. I know it's possibly to buy thick rug pads, but the ones I've found have been expensive. I think it wouldn't be too hard to create some sort of cushion to go between the rug and a cheap, non-skid pad. Does anyone have suggestions for an inexpensive material that might work? Thanks!

Do you care about your Persian rug? Is it expensive? If it is and you don't want to damage it, you need to invest the money in a good rug pad. Bad rug pads can break apart the fibers of your rug from the underside through the top by causing friction on the delicate fibers.

What about a furniture moving blanket? Between a non-skid pad and the rug itself, it wouldn't likely damage the rug's delicate fibers - but I'm no expert. A quick Google search returns several inexpensive sources...

I used to work for a carpet seller. Try going here, he used to buy from them. They have several low density but high quality rug pads to choose from, made specifically for area rugs. VantageIndustries.com. I couldn't tell if they sell to individuals or businesses only, but you could contact them to find out how to!

I always just buy carpet pad at Home Depot/Lowe's. They sell it off those giant rolls, and it's not very expensive -- I think you can get 8X10 of "the good stuff" for less than $40. (Also you can cut it and tape it together with duct tape to make the exact shape you need.)

I like the foam rug pads at Target; for 8 x 10, they're only about 40 bucks.
