Hello AT,
ok, so you guys have cb2 ads all over your site. i'm interested. but, i'm in nyc so i can't reach out and touch the stuff. how's the quality? i am especially interested in the couches - curious about build and comfort. any input iwill be greatly appreciated.
regards, charlie
Charlie, So you noticed? Yes, we have CB2 paying the bills for a few months, and we're glad because we've always liked C&B, the store, the products and the staff. As long as we have the luxury of choosing our advertisers, we'll choose shops we feel comfortable with.
That said, being in NY as well...

I haven't bought any furniture from CB2, so I can't comments on the quality of the furniture in the long run, but I live in Chicago and often I've test run some stuff in the store and I must say for the most part their furniture is quite comfortable and seems to be quite decent quality. I think you can be pretty confident when ordering from them.
And actually I was going to post a shout to Chicago AT readers and mention that I was at the CB2 on North & Clybourn this past Thursday and I noticed that they were having a floor sample sale on a bunch of their furniture. Most of it looked to be in pretty decent shape. There were a couple of desk chairs that had slight scratches, but nothing that bad.
I live a few blocks away from CB2 so I guess I'm qualified to throw out an opinion here.
I think CB2 carries stylish, modern furniture and furnishings, but I would not personally call it "investment" furniture. They generally have a good selection of useful and fun products in a variety of cool colors. I've bought a lot of housewares there - they have great modern dishes and glassware that is inexpensive and good looking.
I haven't bought any furniture there, but my impression is that most of it is of average quality. My primary concern would be stain resistency. They must not rotate the goods very often because I've seen plenty of marks and stains on things, especially the area rugs -- obviously they get a lot of foot traffic through the store (it's next to a Trader Joe's).
My overall opinion is that CB2 carries fun and trendy furniture that is scaled for smaller homes. You won't be passing it down to your grandkids, though.
Is CB2 the same as the C&B outlets? I've been to an outlet on 4th St. in Berkeley, CA and liked the fun things they had there but don't remember any furniture that wasn't incidental furniture.
CB2 is not an outlet, it's more like a concept store geared to a different type of customer. Their merchandise is younger, trendier and less expensive than the "traditional" Crate and Barrel stores.
I would rather use CB2 than west elm, as I am still waiting for my headboard that I have purchased from west elm 2 weeks ago (shipping company they use sucks).
I love the way cb2 uses color and the price is not bad either.
CB2 is great because they have all of the basics from big bro CB, while adding more flair. I love the fact that I could buy my Tord Boontje light there as well as glasses that I was bummed were discontinued from CB.
CB2 is just soooo much more fun. The only piece of furniture I've purchased is a clear acrylic table and it was great. I just wish they had a catalog and updated their website more often for people like me who live in nyc. Rumor has it that they are buidling one somewhere here, though!!!!!
I've purchased a bistro table and some housewares through CB2 online. My stuff made it to Texas quickly and in good shape. But I have to agree with Kathryn's statement about the quality. I like the table, but for the price I paid I thought it would be much more sturdier than it is. I could have bought something similar at Target for half the price. But to be fair, I was satisfied with the quality and value of the housewares.
I ordered a dresser from CB2 in 2004. Delivery was fast. Unfortunately, I soon discovered two problems with the piece, the main ne being that it became impossible to open the drawers! (seemed the tracks were not attached properly.
Despite the fact that I had purchased the piece more than two months earlier, CB2 replaced the piece. I was very happy with how responsive they were. Customer service was great, just like with C&B. I would definitely consider them again in the future.
I am happy with the piece I have now. It seems decently built. Good value for money.
We like the stylish lucite coffee table that we purchased last month. That's the upside. The downside is we had a total breakdown of communicaton with the local delivery company, and then with CB2's customer service dept. But we love the table!
cb2 catalog is arriving in the not-too-distant future... go to cb2.com to sign up. Can't wait!
I love this offshoot of C&B... and have been thoroughly happy with (smaller decorative) items purchased there, their delivery/ordering process and return policy. Just wish I had a warm-weather high-style vacation home to furnish!
As a resident of Chicago, I am thankful for CB2. I was there when they first flung open their doors in 2001, and have dropped more than enough disposable income there.
Their stuff, while not always unique, is generally pretty good. I agree, that their furniture is not quite investment piece quality, but fair for the price. I have had my dining table for a while, and am quite happy. (I didn't buy my dining chairs their to avoid the showroom look.) They have great accesories and fun tableware. I will most likely continue to drop more than enough of my income there for years to come.
I live in Brooklyn and ordered the CB2 Concept Sofa for my new apartment...I really like it. It's comfortable and durable. And they delivered it about 6 days after I ordered it, and came at the time they said they would. Thumbs up.
I have purchased both my bed and dining room table from CB2 and am LOVE them both. The quality of both pieces is excellent... I am very pleased and planning to buy several more pieces from them. Also I live in Colorado and am no where near a CB2 store so I have to rely on their GREAT customer service as well as store employees to help me make my purchases and they always go over and above what is expected. More than once a store employee has sat on a chair for me, described a color/fabric to me, talked about the quality/details/comfort etc. of a piece that I can not see in person for myself. I have never been let down by them, and get many compliments on the items I have purchased from their store. My next purchases from them will be 2 living room chairs and coffee table (not to mention some of their fun holiday decorations!)
CB2 gets my vote!
I purchased the flashbulb pendant light (I don't think they carry it any longer) from them and it fell (semi)apart within 2 weeks. After sticking it back together several times, it completely fell apart within another couple of weeks.
I was able to super-glue it all back together again, luckily.
I had been wondering if that was normal quality for their wares (it doesn't sound like it).
Any comments on their wood furniture? The website describes ikea style veneer with some solid construction. I'm just worried about how easily it scratches.
I am buying new stuff for my new apartment, and I am looking at the chaise and matching chair of a sectional to fit my small space.
If you were comparison shopping C&B vs. CB2 on these two pieces (fairly similar in style from one store to the other), which would you purchase?
I realize CB2 is more affordable. I love the housewares I've bought online, but I hate to spend money on furniture that isn't going to hold up. My last sofa was Norwalk. It held up very well over 10 years, and I only got rid of it because I moved across country.
I am pretty easy going on my stuff, and I keep my home really clean. Recommendations? Thoughts? I'd love to hear some more firsthand experiences.
Thanks everyone.
I live in Los Angeles and I am interested in buying the sectional sofa at CB2. But like most people, I want to FEEL it first and SIT and LIE. I want somrething very comfy and i don't really care if the furniture lasts a lifetime - how about 6 years?
So - if anyone is out there and has sat on a couch at CB2 (the annex sectional?) please let me know if it is REALLY comfortable!
Thanks!

Am I too late for the CB2 discussion? I am interested in purchasing the lucite coffee table but am concerned about it scratching. I have 3 kids (8,7 & 5 years old) who will play games, do puzzles and, no doubt, run a few hot wheels cars across it. Any thoughts or experiences to be shared?
I just purchase Zeta dishes and cups from CB2...they are fun stylish and so far when i have people over for dinner they think the dishes must of cost me a fortune...NOT....they were a great buy, i live in Jersey the only thing im not happy with CB2 is that i had to return some cups and paid shipping both ways, i don't know if i want to order any more i would like to add more to the dinnerware but am afraid of the shipping back and forth.
Hi.. Was wondering if anyone has sat in or has the CB2 Oasis Sofa. I really want to get it but I am in NY and unable to test it out for myself. Would love any feedback...
Thanks!
Like 'katieroo' I am interested in a CB2 sofa, the Annex Sectional. I live in Montana, so there is little chance that I might get to sit in (or lie down on) on this furniture. ThankS!
In response to Gina, I just bought a lucite coffee table from www.aaronrthomas.com I had similar concerns about the material being ruined by my 4 year old. They told me when I bought it that it was made from the strongest acrylic available and if it ever got scratched it could be polished out. I have had it for 3 months and other than very fine, almost non-existant (like the kind you see on glass) scratches it still looks brand new.
