Good Questions: List of Carpenters for Built-In Bookshelves in NYC?

2004_11_8_contractor.jpgHello AT,

i'm looking for carpenters to build built-in bookshelves, in ny/bklyn. looking for something modern/simple and not overly expensive. is there any webpage with lists of names or, better yet, some site with customer ratings where i can compare work/ideas/prices? any help appreciated!

Thanks. SB

Dear SB,

This is what we have set out to do because we don't know anyone else who does it, and you can find a pretty good list of cabinetmakers, carpenters and handymen in our services section.

We also recommend heading down to your local hardware store and seeing if they have any recommendations or business cards for reference. We find they usually do and the folks are local.

That said, out list is far from complete and any recommendations from other readers in this thread would be much appreciated. We'll also follow up with them and add them to our services section so others can; find them as well.

Anyone??

if you have any friends in the film/theater fields i would ask them. we often do this type of work but for very demanding bosses (ie directors). dont have anyone to recommend however...

I would check out parkslopeparents.com. I use them for about every resource. Better yet, people leave ratings and are quite honest. That is good to know considering this city is filled to the brim with crooked contractors.

if you haven't yet checked out angie's list (www.angieslist.com) i highly recommend it. you can join for free, and have access to lists of service providers in your area that come recommended from other members. it's kind of awesome! i've used it to find a handyman and a custom glass cutter so far, and i've been very pleased.

We used Steve from Urban Exteriors - he did some built in bookshelves with bottom cabinets for us in a very simple, modern style and at a very reasonable price. We couldn't have been happier with the results! Check out his website, which also has photos and his contact info:http://www.panix.com/~brooklyn/. His primary business is constructing decks, but he does smaller jobs in between and on rainy days.
