Good Questions: Logico Lamp for Cheaper?

12-5-logico.jpgHello AT,

My new obsession, this Artemide logico ceiling lamp, is waaay out of my price range at $585 for the single unit. Any suggestions for a similar look on a Home Depot budget? (PS online suggestions preferred--I don't live in NY).

Thanks, d.

Dear d, this one is for the crowd, but how about YLighting for $292?

Maxwell - The $292 price is for the Micro version. The standard ceiling version at Ylighting goes for $497.

You can use a 10% off coupon NOVEMBERSWITCH to get the price down to $450 (seems like Ylighting is always having a 10% sale). Good savings over Unica's price, but I'm guessing still out of d's budget.

That lamp looks odly like the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto's Savoy vase! It is just upside down. Hmm..

This may be too much of a helping-hands-at-home look....but what about fishing out an old silk or hardback shade and folding it into a similar...custom shape?

Most good shades have a metal frame on the top and bottom. A pair of plyers and some imagination might create something great. Just don't bend any central members because that would be the natural place to attach the shade to the bulb.

Thanks all! Yes, it is just like the Aalto vase, which is part of the reason I am obsessed! Do you know the difference between the micro and the mini versions? Although at close to $300, I'm not sure my dear hubby would let me back in the house.

I saw a similar sconce by Michael Graves (see, e.g., http://www.1stoplighting.com/detail-new.asp?ProductID=47766&type=5&category=84&subcategory=0), but did not see a ceiling lamp equivalent. This would be to replace the super ugly fixture at the entrance to our condo, so a full pendant or chandelier would drop down too low.
