Hello AT,
Do you remember seeing wood end tables that were basically a thick open box, all wood veneer (macassar?) except for the inside of the openings, which were lacquered various solid colors? I remember a bright coral red, and an all-white interior, but having trouble remembering where I saw them...
Thnx, p(too)
Dear P2, We don't remember this, but hope someone does... The first shop that comes to mind however is Eboniste, which does this kind of thing. They don't seem to have the colored interiors, however. We think the use of the word "macassar" is right though, in terms of looking for that type of altered veneer. We did a little googling around and found one nice link to macassar tables that might lead you to the right place: Art Deco Collection.
Not sure that its what you are looking for but I saw a modern version of this old classic.
i have a bizarre ability to remember images, and i want to say that they were in a house beautiful or similar-sized magazine (not elle decor or met home) about 18mos ago and that they were by donghia. i looked on donghia's website and found the tables which i remembered having jewel-colored (but not white) lacquered interiors in that magazine, but they no longer appear to be sold with the lacquered finish inside... perhaps you could call and see if they are still available by special order? good luck.

It is a very different shape but Calvin Tsao for Donghia (www.donghia.com, to-the-trade) has a wood veneer outside with a color lacquer interior, as mentioned above. You'll pay retail and It sounds like a pain but if you're near a big city you can find some way to get in to a Donghia showroom.
A substitute is Jonathan Adler's furniture. It is plasticized lacquer over MDF but has that glamorous shine.
Another idea is 1stdibs.com. They have some sweet things rolling through there if you can act fast.
And, Eboniste does have a line of geometricly shaped oak veneered product with a matte finish.
Looking for a macassar dinning table with travertine inlay down the middle. Found one, but don't know the manufacturer...possibly Italian made? Any ideas?
