Good Questions: Love These Rugs, but Cheaper?

9-4-rugpattern.jpg

Hello AT,

Can anyone help me find a rug similar to the ones in the photos above, at a decent price? I love the patterns - they complement the lines in our furniture, but I really don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money. Thanks! Pasc

Dear Pasc,

Those are nice muted patterns and nothing too unique or special, which can mean that it's really hard to find. We would recommend checking out the following places:

Z Gallerie
Crate & Barrel
Room and Board
Rugman.com

Anyone else?

"Decent price" and "ridiculous amount" are highly subjective, especially in the wide-open category of rugs.

If you like an all over pattern, I'd suggest finding a patterned broadloom carpet you like and getting it bound.

Also, try Williams Sonoma Home, though I suspect you'll find that more "ridiculous" than "decent."

World Market has one like the rug to the right. It's green and has another pattern within it.

Oh, and it's jute. (But that zardoozy shape is happenin'.) ;)

I'm surprised no one pointed out West Elm here. Their tribal diamond rug has the square shapes of the left-hand side rug and their much-seen morocco window rug has the curvy shapes of the one on the right. Colors are much darker but the interest seemed to be in the pattern. . .

I second p2's suggestion of finding a nice quality carpet remnant you like cut to the size you need and having it bound. Then you have your own custom rug to suit your tastes.

The rug on the left is likely Stark Carpet, and you can rest assured the price is beyond astronomical.

Try Macy's Herald Sq. or one of the suburban rug departments during a rug sale. You'll be surprised at what you'll find, even in the dowdier stores.

When I need (decent) cheap rugs...I head to the Christmas Tree Shop. There's one up near the Palisade's Mall and I think there's one opening up on Staten Island soon.

You can't see the pattern on line but Crate and Barrel has a pile rug with horizontal rows of tufts. They are wool with a cotton backing and quite reasonable. http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=1262&f=25042&q=rug&fromLocation=Search&DIMID=400001&SearchPage=1

There are also some tonal rugs from Jonathan Adler via La-Z-Boy.
