Good Questions: Love These Tables. Where Do They Live?

5-2--coffee-table.jpgHello AT,

I saw these custom made tables on an episode of reDesign on HGTV. I really like the striped/veneered wood. I was wondering if anyone knew of a a retail store that sold something similar? I do prefer the round shape, but a square table like the one from David and Im's space would also be cool.

Thank you! Chinyu

...except that Ken Johansson is the source for the original custom job. Chinyu is looking for a retail source...

If you are feeling diyish - Wood veneer, plywood cylinders, end capts, and table legs.

A combination of DIY and using what's available could give you the results you seek. Maybe not round ones, but square or rectangular.

Check out this coffee table at IKEA:

It already has some variation on the sides. Apparently there are two drawers in there somewhere, which is great. Top is tempered glass.

Ahhh, but replace the glass with the combination carbonized/natural bamboo flooring shown here:
http://www.ticobamboo.com/design_installations.shtml

The second picture, of course. That's pretty much how the top of your table would look, and you could have the stripes running lengthwise too.

Going all out, you could have any table covered with the combination bamboo. Browse coffee tables all over the place. From unfinished stores, to street finds, for tables that would take the striped bamboo.

Giving you a one-of-a-kind table that everyone will comment about. And pretty soon, we'll see a picture of YOUR table on this site, with someone asking where they can get it!

KT nailed it...it's right on the website:

Since I was useless in finding it (and it had already been found by KT), here are zebrawood veneer lamps to go with the table:

P2, I need you over my shoulder for the rest of my life. You can help turn my head in the proper direction when I get lost. Or distracted. Which is all the time. Uh, can we put the lamp shade around a round table? Can we fill the lamp shade with concrete?

Since the Ken Johansson person/place doesn't have a website, I didn't know it was custom...it doesn't say that on the website that I saw. I thought maybe it was just a store without a website. Call 'em up and order up a couple tables.

I sent an email to him, and maybe he'll come over to give more details or provide ordering information.

I only knew they were custom because I saw the episode.

Well, that, and the actual question began "I saw these custom made tables.." and ended "...wondering if anyone knew of a a retail store that sold something similar?"

I don't have cable. I don't even use the TV (it's been months since it's been on, or even plugged in).

Yeah, I did actually read the question, but the questioner didn't say the wood type or the person who made them, and I thought maybe they could be ordered. I'm SURE they could be ordered, if the price was right.

Oh well, I'm an idiot and couldn't find anything that matches and the email bounced back. Maybe someone in the L.A. area could call and ask about the tables? I don't have long distance phone service either.

Andree--
My saying "I only knew they were custom because I saw the episode." was not intended as criticism. Just explaining why I knew that.

Very similar tables are available here in Canada at a store called Urban Barn (hate the name!) and they are being liquidated as the zebrano line is a few years old.

Hey guys. Thanks for everyone's responses. I really appreciate all the feedback. I called Ken and he said that he's been out of the business for about a year now =(. He did say the tables would run around 700 and that any custom cabinetry place can make those tables.

I also checked out Urban Barn (nice name heh) and they do have some nice looking similar tables and they are pretty cheap (the price is even cheaper when you convert it from Canadian to US) but I'm not too crazy about the legs on those tables.

Chin--
If it's the Zebrano look you like, but don't need the "mass" of the blockier styles, both West Elm and Gus Modern offer Zebrano coffee tables, but both are on metal stands/legs.

But I do like the legs on the Urban Barn table.
