Good Questions: Love This Fabric, But Where From?

2-1-pillowfab.jpgHello AT,

I was wondering if anyone knew where I can find the beatiful fabric on the pillow in this picture? I have seen in multiple design magazines, but am unsure of who makes it. Thanks!

I recently found a great, old, Danish-modern lamp that will go perfectly with my other Danish and mid-century furniture. The wood on the lamp is fine, but the old shade is trashed. I'd like to replace it by making one myself, but don't know where to start. Any ideas where I can get the materials and tips on how to do it?

I don't know about the fabric but I love the divider panels in the background.

It kind of looks like a blue version of this Romo fabric, which is currently selling on ebay:

But, these flowers are on a much bigger scale. You could always email that picture to the person who owns this ebay store - they might be able to help you? They certainly sell a lot of designer fabric.

If you are in New York, go to Harry Zarin. They have A LOT of books of fabric swatches. You may not find the exact one, but I bet you can find something close.

Gosh, did people notice that girl Dia sure does not know how to type! I saw that fabric at K-mart in the Martha Stewart section.

I believe the type of fabric is called Ikat. That's a technique, not a brand. Try googling that word, or searching Ebay.

March 2006 Elle Decor magazine... Cindy Crawford is on the cover sitting on a blue Donghia sofa with what looks like these same throw pillows. The product info page only indicates that the sofa is upholstered in an Ikat cotton-linen by John Robshaw Textiles. johnrobshaw.com phone # 212 594-6006. Hope that helps.

I know it's not the pillow you're seeking, but the Virgina Johnson website has some gorgeous patterns you may like, I think she would fit your aesthetic. Especially the waffle print:

The underwater is a personal favorite:

Lena Corwin designs beautiful pillows, maybe the blue "pom pom" pillow would interest you:

Kerry Cassill is another one you may like.

Again, I know that none of these are an exact match, but in case you don't find the one you're looking for, Lena, Kerry, and Virginia may be the ladies for you!

Follow Kaye's advice. It's an Ikat, which is a type not a brand. The threads are tie-dyed before they are woven, which gives the fabric a very nice, soft, "bleeding" design. You can find them at some of the interior design trade fabric showrooms and also in some stores that sell Middle Eastern/Far East ethnic furnishings. I was just at the gift show in NYC and saw some beautiful designs pre-made into pillows at the Ankasa booth, although they weren't in the design you've seen.

That's a detail shot from the current issue of Elle Decor--

You should credit it as such.
