A perfect question for Colors Month: Help! After water pouring through my roof for the last month, my landlady has made the repairs and wants to paint my room neutral colours. Does anyone have any good ideas, I’m not sure I want to be another victim of “Magnolia"? Any ideas would be more than appreciated! I also have dark wood exposed beams and would appreciate any ideas for what to do with them! Thanks in advance, James

So are you keeping that red/orange accent wall or painting over it?

Tell her that you'll paint the room yourself in whatever color pleases you - and she can paint it a "neutral" color when you move out.

is that a Twister comforter?!

look at a fan deck and take your landlady some suggestions. If she let you paint that orange wall, then maybe she'll just let you pick the colour.
Grey and orange! Grey and orange!!

UWSretreat, that was my question. Twister comforter- that's kinda kinky! ;)

i love the orange wall, but if she wants neutrals:

and take a look at the other paint companies' choices.

Whatever you do, just don't paint over the beams, they're gorgeous!

Why do landlords care what color the walls are when their tenant is living in the apartment??? Shouldn't they be happy with a "return to white when you move out" rule as part of the agreement? Seriously! Hope you get to paint it how you want!

i hope you get to keep that accent wall! it's awesome...
tell her white is neutral. i like the grey comment above too though. but really, if you have to repaint that accent wall when you leave, ask her if she would mind just waiting until then to paint the whole room neutral! shmooze her by mentioning you've already been inconvenienced enough?

Thanks for the replies!
Um... yeah it's a Twister Duvet cover, but that's not the focus here!
The accent wall is bright red and I do quite like it but while the landlady wants to come in and paint I think I'd be crazy not to let her! Some other corners of the room are shabby.
Anyone got some good ideas on what to do with the beams? I did find a wind up cable car on a string to hang between them...

To help minimize the focus of the beams use other dark wood accents throughout your room. You seem to like the lighter wood tones so I don't think I'm much help! But if your landlady is cool with it, maybe paint them to match the rest of the room.
