Good Questions: Nice, Non-Clunky Media Console?

11-17-austin.jpgHello AT,

I'm in search of a console -- to store stereo equipment inside and to hold my tv on top. I've looked all over the place: Room & Board, Crate & Barrel, Desiron, BoConcepts, Ikea, DWR.... I can't find find exactly what I want: something that's not clunky, that doesn't look cheap, and that's stylish without being overdesigned.

Any tips???? Thanks, Betsy

I have this one in chocolate. It houses my tv, dvd player, tape recorder, and ps2.

Check out the Travo at M2L. It may be pricey, but it just dissappears!

I was having the same problem and decided on have a console/credenza custom made by Room (in Soho). They will make eaxactly what you want. The console I am having made is similar proportions to the pic, but no doors and all walnut with a dark stain. It is actually the "vintage shelving" done in a lower and wider version than shown on the website.

low down media cabinet - hides all your gear behind the doors....very low to the ground and quality construction.

Todd Oldham for La-Z-Boy has some nice-looking options: "Dexter" http://www.la-z-boy.com/ourfurniture/product.aspx?pid=1909 , "Snap" http://www.la-z-boy.com/ourfurniture/product.aspx?pid=1857 , "Snap" variation http://www.la-z-boy.com/ourfurniture/product.aspx?pid=1860 , and my fave of the bunch, "Patchwork" http://www.la-z-boy.com/ourfurniture/product.aspx?pid=1871 . When I looked at the merch in person a year ago, the furniture pieces looked to be solidly-built and well-constructed.

If your taste runs towards glass and steel:
www.avdecoinc.com
www.bello.com

Or, if you want more wood with glass accents:
www.bdiusa.com

Or, something more modular:
www.cdcabinet.com

Or one-stop shopping:
www.racksandstands.com
www.standsandmounts.com

But my personal favorite is:
www.soundations.com
Especially their La Casa line of home theater stands.

Hope this is some help!

I love this unit from Soorikian because it stores dvds/cds in a drawer:
