Good Questions: Nook Bed or Case Study?

12.3bed.jpgHello AT,

We are deciding on a queen size bed and have narrowed it down to two. The wonderful guacamole nook bed by Bluedot and the case study v leg bed at DWR.

As you can see the green nook bed is delicious, but we haven't seen it in person and have some questions for any of you who have seen it or own it. Evidently the nook bed is quite popular and is on backorder everywhere so we're hoping someone here owns one!

(Note: Include a pic of your problem and your question gets posted first.)

Our specific questions: Nook Bed--is it well made and can it stand up to various bedroom activities? Though I've looked at the specs no where does it talk in detail about the platform. Can the mattress breathe? We don't want our mattress getting stuffy & moldy (a real problem with some platforms!)

How does Bluedot furniture in general hold up? Has anyone ever ordered from DesignPublic? Any comments about either bed is appreciated!

Thanks! Timmy

Holy Guacamole! Is that a new version of "Guacamole"? The Nook bed I saw at ICFF last May was also "Guacamole" and it was not even close to the intense bright green pictured here. It was a lovely lime green tweed with flecks of brown and gold. If the search function was working, I would post links to the Nook Bed Post from August and some similar upholstered beds!...

Holy guacamole indeed. It's a lovely green, but it may wear on you after some time, or not. anyway I'd choose the Case Study model.

I suspect this is the guacamole bed- even though I can't see for s***, I can detect some degree of "mottling" with other colors. Still, I think it's a hot color, but one that can only work in very specific situations. In that sense, the case study bed would be much more versatile, but the nook bed seems to be so much more inviting. It beckons you to come over and have a lie down.

I have the case study and even with my mediocre mattress it feels amazing. The wood and craftsmenship is so solid this thing will last forever too.

I also have a soft spot for blu dot so either way I think you'll be in good hands.

I can't speak to the quality of either item, but I can give a GREAT review to Design Public! I have ordered from them many times in the past, and their customer service has always been top notch. I once had a lamp shade arrive dented (it was a manufacturing defect, not something that happened during shipping), and they immediately sent a replacement -- without requiring me to return the damaged item. Small things like that will make me go back to a specific retailer again and again.

I own the case study bed (which I got half-price at the DWR outlet in Secaucus) and really love it. It's so comfortable, so modern yet classic, and goes with everything. I'd worry that I'd get sick of the green over time.

Though I absolutely love the green bed, I think I have to concur that the case study bed is so much more versatile in the long run. I also worry that with a fabric covered bed frame, you need to be worried about it getting dirty-- we have cats (which of course the original poster may not), and all can I picture is that the bed is one big cat hair magnet.

A slightly unrelated case study bed question-- I've coveted it for years, but we have a rather large "poofy" mattress (12 or 13" thick). Every picture of the bed you see online is with one of those very thin (and $$) mattresses. Does anyone have the case study bed with such a large mattress? Does it completely swallow the headboard?

My husband and I recently placed our order for the Nook bed in Chalk with Design Public. We saw it at the new Blu Dot showroom at ABC carpet and thought it was great. Quality seemed just as good (if not better) than the dozens of other beds we had been seeing in our search. The headboard is sleek yet still cozy -- and we are looking forward to no longer bruising our shins on the sharp edges of our current bed!

The guacamole color is a little different in person (not as bright), so maybe you could order a swatch to get a better idea of it. The good thing about the cover is that you can remove it, wash it, and replace it if/when you get tired of guacamole.

I've ordered with Design Public before, and their customer service so far has been fantastic.

Good luck!

this is for PDX01 - i recently got a case study bed, which i'm using with my 11" mattress. my solution to the fat mattress problem was to raise the headboard a couple of inches. it's easy to do since you have to drill the holes and screw the thing on anyway. now i have almost the whole headboard showings. i love the bed, but to be completely honest, i think the proportions are thrown off just a little bit by the thick mattress.

Yes, we're concerned too about growing tired of the green but this is good news indeed that you can replace the cover & that the color is not so bright. Looking at the swatches on some of the sites, it would appear that it's a muted tweed green with flecks of yellow in it. Muda07: is the platform completely solid? Does it allow the mattress to breathe or the air to circulate? Thanks!

I think both beds are cool, so I'm no help, but I just wanted to ask: who ARE all you people who can manage to live with platform beds without barking your shins every single day? I feel like such a spaz in comparison with you all.

Yep. Case Study bed will never, ever go out of style, and will always be more stylistically versatile. It's more of a true investment piece.

timmy, my husband did pull up the mattress and saw slats on the platform, allowing the mattress to breath.

Thanks muda07 and others for the very helpful comments. I'm leaning towards the case study & agree with others about its being a classic but my wife (while loving the case study) is infatuated with the nook bed. I think she's in love with the slightly wild idea of a guacamole colored bed & the fact that it's a little on the unusual side. We'll see which wins out but as jrd550 says we'll be in good hands either way! Thanks everyone & merry xmas & happy holidays!
