Hello AT,
I love those old industrial ribbed glass light fixtures. I found them at urban archeology, but they are $$$$. Do you know where I can get new/old ones for much less?
Many thanks, Kat

Dear Kat, This is really for the crowd. We'd keep an eye on 1st Dibs, but doesn't IKEA make replicas or were we imagining it. We know that's not very good, but we sick. Anyone else?
Uplift Lighting in the West Village
(506 Hudson Street; 929-3632)
that's where I got my small version factory lighting, but they had the big'uns too.
But is it still there??
have you tried ebay?
How about Restoration Hardware?
I got a knockoff at Lighting by Gregory on the Bowery. It was around $500 with the lens on the bottom and I get many compliments on it.
It's right by their register and looks similar to the one in the photo.
Howard's Antiques, Rt 23, Egremont MA
absolutely try schoolhouse electric. i think that's the website name, as well - fantastic.
Might I ask this: If Kat is saying this fixture (which is quite nice) is $$$$ and Justin's 11/30 post mentions he found one for LESS - at $500 - then what in the *@ does $$$$ really mean? Is it bigger than a car? Is it made of platinum? I am - and trust me on this one - far from cheap, kind of frugal but not cheap - and unless its going to do my laundry or change my genetic body type I think this is a bunch of cash to put down on a light fixture which after a short period of time will be something one wants to change. With a bit of creativity perhaps you could actually make one. Oh yeah, and I make pretty good money....so if anyone finds it for less than five big ones, let me know. Maxwell was right about IKEA - ok, so its not exact - who is going to stand on a chair and notice...
.......I said it all with a smile...
thanks everyone! the info is great.
great idea, i'll start making one right away
oyster: ok, it was a bit much I guess, but I'm an artist/craftswoman and it just follows that I think that way. I guess it is easier to buy one...Your comment was funny. (hardware stores...oops, there I go again, sorry)
