Good Questions: Other Block Lamp Resources?

9-15-lamp.jpgHello AT,

I am absolutely in love with the block lamp currently offered at West Elm. Apparently so is everyone else as it is on back order until December! I was wondering if you all knew where I could find a similar lamp?

Thanks. ~Dia

Dear Dia,

This kind of block lamp has been popular for awhile, but gets even more popular when it's only $99. Strangely, we had a very hard time finding alternatives as well. The only ones we found were:

The Crystal and Leather Block Lamps at WSHome.com
The Wood Block Lamp by Ty Pennington at Sears.com which seems to have disappeared lately....

Anyone??

Check Target's website. Under the lamp section, choose wood. There are a couple of lamps that are similar.

The Door Store has some very nice-looking block lamps that are also quite affordable. Their bafflingly low-tech website inexplicably doesn't have any pictures of them. I can't attest to their long-term quality, but they look nice in the store!

Also nice is the Kaupus lamp from Furni. Plus, they seem like nice guys to give your business to, and if you dig around various design blogs, you'll find a code for a "Friends & Family" discount.

Again, can't attest to quality or shipping time.

Here's a very similar one from Target:

Damn you people for making me start looking at table lamps when I have zero, nada, absolutely no room or space for one! Telling everyone about all these tempting bargains is definitely very contrary to the "less is more" philosophy of the site ;-).

That being said, I can't believe how many attractive lamps are out there at a low budget - Pier One has quite a few good choices and I loved the Phantom at CB2. Almost every table lamp in my house is from eBay, so I haven't spent much time looking for lamps in the past.

I got my desk lamp from apt (http://www.apt-ny.com/lighting/)

The lamp that I got was square rather then rectangular, but I got to pick out both the color of the shade and base. I like it alot and have gotten many positive comments

For a slighly more rustic look (or not, depending on your choice of finish) why not go DIY and drill a hole in a piece of salvage lumber (cut to your specs, natch) and add a lighting kit.

Just found the Banu lamp via the AT classifieds:

Not exactly what you were looking for, but seems close.
