I need to purchase a runner for my stairs (both the handful of stairs pictured on the right and the full set of stairs leading up to the second floor - note that the wall along the stairs still needs to be dealt with). I'm leaning towards a pattern like the Ballard Designs wallpaper (picture after the jump) in a complementary color. Do you know of any online resources for stylish stair runners? Thanks!

I hope it is feel of that open pattern, NOT the literal translation you're after. A white & apple green lattice rug is wrong for your home decor. Too garden party looking for your leather furnished room.
Look at these West Elm rugs I think either one would be really nice. And so well priced!
alhambra runner
or
Metalic Botinical runner
BTW/ Most manufacturers make area rugs in "runner size"
2 1/2 ft x 7' or longer.

hey, is that one of the Broyhill reclaimed-wood tables from the other post today?? : )

I think the green and white picture was a sample of wallpaper she was thinking of putting on the furthest stair wall, not for a runner.

Unfortunately I don't have any runner sources, but I would love to know where you got that tv stand!

In case I wasn't clear, I'm looking for a runner to attach to the stairs, not an actual rug. The dogs are having major issues with the wood stairs in the narrow space and need some grip.
dewi - Not the literal pattern - I'm looking for something like that, with a similar airy feel. Definitely not green!
lbjmonkey - Almost the Broyhill tables. They're from Viva Terra.
pitchk - The TV stand was my big splurge from Matt Soorikian. I think the cost was around $1200.

Hi Doublek,
What you're describing is a continuous runner you order at a carpet store.
Runners are sold two ways open ended footage (carpeting store) or as pre-made rugs as they have at West Elm and other decorating stores.
I adore ABC carpet for the type of product you're looking for. Go to the basement of ABC, they always have a terrific selection of runner carpets in bulk, or sample you can order from.
I've used Home Depot Decorator stores for carpet, and they installed the carpet, it worked out well for a bedroom wall to wall carpet (I covered a cement floor that my daughter hated in her bedroom) the price is always right at Home Depot.
It will look very nice in your home, get it installed professionally. Carpet on steps is a true pain to DIY.

Sisal wears well under dog traffic, and the right weave can give you a textured appearance and be comfortable for your paws, too.
The chocolate sisal stair runner at http://www.naturalrugs.org/america/stair_runners.htm is a plain weave but the color would complement your sofa.
One of the textured sisal variations at http://www.coastal-style.com/sisal-textured2.html might be yummy, with a leather border.

Because of a post here on AT, I recently saw that Thomas Paul is making rugs and you can see them at a store in Soho.
Patterns are the same as the melamine plates and silk pillows. Love love love.

Have you seen these Tibetan stair treads? I've seen other versions of them too, in catalogs. I think they are great looking, and more modern than a runner:

...P.S. -- Nice wall paint combo with the rug!

Ooh, the Tibetan stair treads are handsome. Good call.

If you are going for stair treads, think about modern carpet tiles. They are way cheaper and if you cut them in half they fit really well.
