Good Questions: Rice Paper Resources?

3-1-paper-shades2.jpgHello AT,

I am interested in attempting paper shades, but don't know where to purchase the paper. Target had some cute paper shades, but not the right dimensions--they had a wood texture. The website from the rice paper shade post of a few weeks back gave some sites, but I don't see that you can buy on-line paper in large quantities.

If you know of a good place, I would appreciate the info.

Thanks, Judy

Maybe at Kate's Paperie in NYC?

Your local paper crafts store might have it on supply on those big butcher rolls, which would be wide enough for a window.

The Japanese Paper Place - I used to order from these guys all the time when i was an art student. They really are one of the best suppliers in North America.

If you're in NYC, New York Central Art Supply has a great paper department. And they seem to be 10-20% cheaper than Kate's Paperie.

62 Third Ave (bet 10th + 11th St)

Good luck!

Maybe Tyvek?

It comes in wider sizes and has a similar textured look.

Real Paper is a fugitive medium (as art folks say) so Tyvek might make a better shade because you wouldn't have to replace it so often.

search google for "shoji paper" instead.

Aiko's, aikosart.com, and the Paper Source, paper-source.com in Chicago. Great handmade paper.

If you are looking to buy them not make them, try Pearl River Mart. I get mine there.

What about the Japanese book store near Rockefeller Center? (Sorry, I don't remember the name, but it's on a side street between 5th & 6th, on the north side of the street, near the Today Show window.) I once bought a sheet of beautiful rice paper there. Don't recall the price, though. They have crafts as well as books.
