what about finding a monochromatic rug that pulls from the stripes on the chair? without knowing exactly what the couch and chairs look like, it's hard to pull you in a specific direction. a rug which is predominantly either green, pink, or orange would work. it also might be easy to find a pink and green rug or a green and orange rug. basically, if you keep it simple and make sure it doesn't compete with your stripey chair, you should be fine.

What color/tone is your floor?

A couple of ways to go...

Stripes, but of a much larger scale (so, more like bands than stripes). If in a limited palette, a tone-on-tone, or colors pulled from the chair, not too circusy.

Stripes, same scale as chaoir, but tone on tone.

Solid or tone-on-tone but highly textural or with a sculpted pattern.

Color blocks.

An organic pattern, in same palette as seating.

A dark chocolate.

And you can never go wrong with jute or seagrass.

A quick peruse of C&B, PB, CB2 and R&B reveals several options.

Also try Pier 1, The COmpany Store, or Chiasso.

Or finally, consider getting a section of carpet remnant bound.

I'd also suggest buying the largest rug you can fit in the space, even (epsecially?) if that means running it under the sofa.

I think people undersize rugs all the time.

I also suggest a cowhide rug from ebay. They're great neutrals that are rich with a gool texture, but they don't cost a fortune. You could easily get one for less than $200 (I did, for a 7.5' x 6' chocolate brown rug) when places like DWR retail them for $750.

Ha!I yipped when I saw your posting. I just bought the Camden sofa myself, I have a print chair, and I'm looking for a rug that won't clash. I've found some options here - they have an amazing selection and their prices aren't bad.

It comes in a variety of colors. I think the fire or sage might go nicely. The circles might be a nice contrast to the stripes in your chair. I actually just bought this rug in fire and love it. They sell them at chiasso.com (you can order samples there) but they are cheaper on rugsdirect.com.

I think a deep chocolate brown or a dark charcoal grey would be great with these pieces - and still give you lots of flexiblity for wall color, pillows, etc. where you can get your "pop."

I couldn't be a bigger fan of custom "area" rugs from Home Depot (or Lowe's or whatever your store of choice). Just pick out a "wall to wall" carpet you like and have them cut it to your precise dimensions. They add a simple finished binding. It's incredibly affordable and lets you size the rug perfectly to your room and furnishings, rather than trying to "work with" a standard 6x9, 8x10, etc.. I like the soft, low-pile Stainmaster kind with just a little bit of nub - but you could get away with even more fiber height given the smoothness of these pieces.

That's kind of a long-winded way, as well, to echo patrick (the other one)'s observation on rug sizes. Err big rather than small.

Show us a picture once you've got the new rug!

You might want to consider some of the contemporary Momeni area rugs that they have. They have a lot of different sizes available and most are pretty cheap.
