The PC Richards on 23rd St (opposite Home Depot) has a fairly large selection of floor models et al. I would be that their other branches do, too.

I am not familiar with NYC at all, but I do know that you can search for Sear's Outlets on their website (www.sears.com). My mother is a budget buyer and swears by the Sears Outlets for appliances. When I went in search of my first washing machine she directed me there.

The staff at Sears filled me in on what goes to the outlet-- obviously anything dented, but also anything without a box or anything returned for any reason. Apparently they need a box to sell it full price. Hope this helps.

This may sound a bit odd however...ebay.

I used to buy just about everything off of ebay and when I was shopping for a new fridge I typed it in to see what I would get and their was a cornucopia of choice. A lot of subzero's with dents at drastic reductions in price.

However do keep shipping costs in mind. (I saw some shipping costs as high as 400usd)

I would eye one on ebay and then go to say home depot expo center (or where have you) to check it out before making the plunge.


Ultimately in the end I bought one off line.

there used to be a sears scratch and dent place in nj on rt 4 or 17 in bergen county- i don't know if it's there anymore.

I went with my sister to that Sears outlet in Atlanta; we got her a fabulous fridge cheap cheap cheap and they even fixed the door so it swung properly (as opposed to scraping the other door). I think that the closest Sears outlet to NYC is in Voorhees, NJ which is a wee bit of a haul i.e. pretty much Philly.

Thanks to all! My MO is all about good and inexpensive resources (at least at this point in my life.) My assistant ended up buying paying retail... well, on sale, actually. But I'm glad for all of the suggestions in this area. Will gladly recommend them to friends and family.
