Good Questions: Simple, Round Table For These Chairs?

11.19table.jpgHello AT,

I am getting ready to move into a much smaller apartment and am going to have to sell my dining table. I currently have four white Eames eiffel chairs that I am planning to keep, but I was looking for a simple, oval or round table for my new place...

I love the Cherner round table in Walnut, but cannot afford the price. Does anyone have any thoughts on a simple, round table that would look nice with my white chairs? Maybe something that is similar to the Cherner style and shape? I would like to keep the cost under $500.

Thanks! Christina

I think the Cherner style is a way more sophisticated pairing than a Saarinen or similar knockoff. It's just... too much. Too much plastic, too much white, too much.

I'm in the market for a similar pairing, and I saw a perfect table in a screenshot from a website in an AT post about how some of the big retailers were going with mid-century looks. I could have sworn it was from Room and Board, but I couldn't find it on their site.

I made an awful photoshop that attempts to describe the shape of the table.

It was big and solid and chunky, with four very angular wood legs and a chunky wood top.

I cannot for the life of me find either the table or the post - does anyone have any ideas?

Oh god, I'm a dimwit. I just got an inspiration about what to google it under, and I found it:

It's not how I remember it in my brain, but those fin legs would still look pretty great with the Eiffel bases.

I have the Eames white eiffel chairs, and I paired them with an oval Heywood Wakefield table I won on eBay for $60. (It cost another $100 to ship, and the table needed to be refinished, but it's still a helluva bargain and looks incredible.)

Thanks so much for these suggestions! I'm looking for something in a walnut hue and really appreciate the feedback. I've been obsessed with searching Ebay and Craig's List the past few days (after seeing the perfect oval table in a vintage store with a big red SOLD sticker on it!). I'll let you know what I find but wanted to thank you for the suggestions offered here.

P.S. Melanie, I like your sketch. : )

Melanie, just fyi, that table is not longer available at West Elm. (It's amazing how quickly things disappear there. The "new" silver finish overlapping circles chair is sold out never to return and a gold lamp I spied there has mysteriously evaported as well.) Anyway, this one is fin-like, as is the Prouve table available from the same source.

If you want to keep it all Eames, someone is selling a round table on CraigsList right now for $100...
