Hello AT,
Have any of you used SmartDraw for floorplans or to map out a room or home?
I would greatly appreciate any reviews or suggestions.
Thanks, Jennifer

Dear Jennifer,
We used SmartDraw for a few years and really like it for doing floorplans. To us, it seemed to be the least complicated, least tacky and more flexible floorplan tool around. And the price is good too.
You can also use it for 30 days for free. So if you are just whipping up one room, it doesn't need to cost you anything.
Anyone else???
I'm seeing lots of people use Google's free SketchUp for home improvement projects now...it's actually a 3D visulatization tool but you can get floorplan capabilities out of it and it's extremely easy to use. Google has a nice growing 'warehouse' of objects you can drop in to your room, too.
I used SmartDraw 30 day free plan to draw my studio apartment; see link. The customability to change the size, shape, and color of furniture and other items is really a kick. I am thinking of buying just the draw part of the program, not the whole suite.
SmartDraw seems to be Windows only. Any solutions for OSX?
I used it to design a new kitchen and bathrooms. It is mostly very good - but limited templates for of sinks, faucets, cabinets etc. If they add more of these, it would be better. But having said that, I was able to do a lot with it and give to a contractor who built from my drawings.

Adobe Illustrator has always worked fine for me (though, admittedly, it does make you work a little harder).
I love the product. I recently redesigned my bathroom and found the product to be very easy to use. I give it a two-thumbs up!
