Hello AT,
A button just popped off of our sofa (Room & Board Andre). How do I
put it back on? It seems like something I should be able to do
myself, but I want to be sure it sinks in like the rest of the buttons.
Thanks! Anna

This is why I decided not to buy my sofa from them.....even the ones in the showroom seemed to be starting to fall apart. Glad I didnt purchase one.
There are special needles you can buy for doing exactly this sort of thing. They're curved, and the ones I have are a set of a few different shapes. You should be able to buy this at any reasonable fabric store. Someone at the store might be able to give you advice about which needle is for what.
Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but I always thought you had to pull it the whole way through from the back to tuft...not sure though. I am hoping for your sake you don't have to unupholster it!
Room & Board should come repair it at little or no cost if its relatively new (1 or 2 yrs maybe). You could do it yourself but someone more experience could do it better & correctly.
what is your experience with that sofa? i'm thinking of getting the same style, but am nervous not being able to try it out.
I would personally take it to an upholsterer. I doubt they would charge you very much at all to fix it and you would know it would be done right.
We had that happen with our Petrie sofa from Crate & Barrel after having it for 6 months. They sent out an upholsterer free of charge.
If Room & Board won't send someone out, ask for the name of their upholsterer and have him/her come out. There's no need to haul it somewhere.
The guy that fixed our couch said one of his clients has a dog that likes to get the buttons off the couch so he ended up teaching the guy how to do it himself.
I'm quite happy with the sofa, can't even fault it much for the button popping offwe regularly snagged that one when flopping onto the couch.
I called Room and Board and they said they'd send someone out to fix it for no charge.
monica - I am not happy with our Andre sofa. We've had it about 8 months and the cushions are very saggy - my wife and I are average-to-skinny, so it isn't because of excessive weight. I'm tired of the appearance of the legs which don't really go with the rest of our style but would look good with more 40's era pieces. For the money, I think there are other options we could have found.
here's how i learned to put on the buttons (you won't like it, it's not as easy as it sounds):
the very bottom fabric (usually black) has to be released first (taking out tacks or staples), so you can release the fabric from the back of the sofa.
using a twine-like string stuff and a really long (7" or more) upholster's needle, thread the button back on from front to back.
on the inside back, push the needle thru a wad of batting, pulling the string tight (to indent the front) and securing it with your best boy scout knots.
replace the back fabric, keeping it tight and smooth.
replace the bottom fabric.
see, i told you, you wouldn't like it.
for my money, i'd get a pro to do it.
i have the same problem, but my couch is a vintage leather chesterfield, so i can't have a manufacturer come repair it. does anybody know of a good upholsterer that makes housecalls in brooklyn...?
