Good Questions: Softer Room & Board Jasper Cushions?

12-4-jasper-cushions.jpg

Hi Super AT Folks, My gorgeous new Room and Board Jasper sectional with custom "discover chive" fabric finally arrived this week! I couldn't be more excited BUT...the cushions are hard as a rock. Of course when I was in the store testing it out the cushions had a lot of give because tons of other tushies had tested it out, too. Does anyone have a Jasper and how long did it take to get the cushions comfy? I'm not panicking just yet but I am concerned that it will remain stiff for way too long. Many thanks in advance, Jeni

All sofas need to break in to achieve the feeling you get in the store. Just spend some time sitting on it (take a nap on it this weekend) and you'll be amazed how quickly it occurs.

Just be sure to rotate and flip your cushions and back pillows frequently so that they'll wear evenly.

I'm having the same problem with my Bo Concept Versa sleeper sofa. I think there really is only one solution--invite lots of people over & plant their bums on the seat! Would love to know if anyone can think of any other options.

I wish my cushions stayed firmer longer! They are on their way to looking positively flattened. Different couch but still...at least you've got a long time before the cushions are too flattened or squished.

I have had a jasper sofa for a year, and it is really comfortable and broken in. I get compliments on how comfortable it is from all of my visitors. It will loosen up very quickly (after just a few sittings).

Great looking sofa! Do the cushion covers come off? If so, you can replace the filling with something more to your liking.

I know that this doesn't answer the question (sorry!) however I just had a thought:

Would anyone be interested in a post where readers can upload photos of their sofas as they exist in their living rooms? There have been so many posts on sofas; where to buy, which is most comfortable, etc... but I think it would be awesome to just have an image gallery of real-life sofas detailing the style, manufacturer, age and any brief details the owner wants to share. Finding the right sofa has been an ongoing, difficult battle for me living in a city with limited resources and my fear of dropping a lot of money for an online purchase that I haven't personally sat on. I think seeing the real sofas in real homes revealing their real dimensions would be awesome.

Anyone else?

RedEngine88 is a genius. I made a bad couch buy and I wish I had had a resource like redengine88's idea.

I've had the Jasper for about a year, and the cushions are super comfy - I don't remember them being stiff at all. But I do remember they came out with a new version (though I thought it was only different fabric) right after I got mine, so maybe that's the difference? I'd give it time or call R&B and see if there's a difference of cushion filling between what you have and what's in the show room.

I have a Jasper, took a few sittings. I like that it is firm yet comfortable. I like to rotate and flip cushions once in a while.
Its a great sofa.

Thanks for all the great feedback. I'll contact R&B to see what they say. Cheers! Jeni

I've had my Jasper sofa for about 5 years now and I don't remember it taking long to break in at all. I must say that I wish the cushions would retain their shape a bit better. It's possible that others have had the same complaint so they made the cushions firmer since I bought mine.

I thought the same thing at first with my Jasper! Give it time - after a few months it will be perfect! My old couch (before Jasper) sank all the time and was very uncomfortable. Don't worry, it will "break-in" soon enough:)

Haha, I am custom ordering a Jasper in the exact same fabric. I'm happy to see that it looks so good...

Funny, I've had mine for about a year and it's still just as over-plump and uncomfortable as it was right off the truck. Maybe I need to make a point of sitting on it more often.

Sit in it. A lot.

And seriously AT - RedEngines on to something!

RedEngine - currently I find Flickr very helpful for seeing things as they exist "in life".

We have the Jasper in leather in it was very hard for a few months maybe, but it started to soften almost immediately. The more you sit the softer it becomes!

I had my Jasper seating for about 7 years...and, unfortunately, they never did get soft. I loved the look, but was always disappointed in the lack of comfort.

We've had our Jasper sofa for about 2 years and unfortunately it has not gotten any softer. It's an attractive sofa but not terribly comfortable. I've contemplated getting the cushions restuffed but would probably be cheaper to buy an entirely new sofa.
