Good Questions: Stainless Steel Tile Installer?

5-4-mitchafter.jpg

Hello AT,

I'm a long time reader, but I've never emailed in. I have a kitchen that I've been remodeling I have included before and after pictures. As you can see I still have a little work to do. The biggest thing is my back-splash (also need to change the dishwasher at some point.)...

I have purchased awesome brushed stainless steel tiles, but I have not been able to find a competent tile installer to install them! Stainless steel requires a bit more expertise than a standard ceramic tile.

Does anybody out there have any good installers they can recommend?

Thanks in advance!!! -Mitch

Dear Mitch,

We don't know anyone specifically, but you should be able to call either the place you got the time from OR a tile shop in NYC and get a reference. We also got a good tip for Louis Ekland.

Shops that might be helpful:

Bella Tile
Quality Tile
Ann Sacks
Nemo Tile

Anyone else??

If you have a good tip for this particular problem, we'll blog it next week.

The metallic tiles that I've seen are actually a synthetic plastic type tile with a stainless steel or copper coating on the front. A regular tile installer can install them they just need to use an adhesive that is recommended for them. They can either be grouted or installed without any gaps.

warren william, www.dazzeltile.com - my bro's a contractor and works with this tile guy exclusively. he works with, and through, bisazza in soho. i remember him telling me about installing stainless steel penny tiles... though i don't know if that's similar to your project. hope that helps!

Laughing out loud here! I first read "before and after" then I looked at the pictures with horror--he turned that gorgeous black kitchen into--THIS? LOL Anyway, now that I've sorted them out, I love what you've done. Very sophisticated! The steel tiles will be great. Be sure to send in a picture when they're installed, please?
