Good Questions: Suggestions For a Modern Quilt?

10-31-modern-quilt.jpgHeather would like some suggestions for a new quilt: I'm looking for a modern quilt that is similar to a moving blanket. Any ideas? Currently, we've one similar to this, but in diamonds. I've liked it, but it has seen better days and I'm tired of the color (the Restoration Hardware blue/green color). Thanks for your help!

Try Room and Board, Crate and Barrel, the Hudson Collections at Macy's, or the Ann Gish washable silk line at Bloomingdale's and ABC Carpet.

How about Kohl's? I stumbled upon one there which was very similar to West Elm's Uneven Squares and Crate and Barrel's Plaza coverlets, but just not as heavy-weight. But I loved the burnt orange color and price, so I went with it.

my new husband and I received Macy's Hotel Collection and we have been very satisfied. We have this quilted coverlet in champagne (not NEARLY as shiney as it looks in this picture!) with white sheets and a light blue knit throw for cold nights.

One warning: do NOT under and circumstances buy bedding from Macy's when it is not on sale. They put everything on sale every 2 weeks or so!

Don't know how similar to a moving blanket you're looking for, exactly, but Utility Canvas offers some bedding.

Area Home has a quilt called "Brick" in a mink brown, an off white, and an ocean blue.

I bought a gorgeous bright spring green bedspread from Overstock.com that is quilted with small suqares with brown thread and reverses to brown and I LOVE it. It is a much brighter green than the picture and I only discovered that by reading the comments: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Calabria-Contrast-Stitch-Quilt-Set/2960992/product.html

It's a poly-silk material and it has a nice sheen to it but it's definitely NOT a shiny satin. I have 2 small dogs that lounge on it all day long while I'm at work and due to the slightly silky texture the hairs do not stick to it. So far I'm loving it and looks great with my crisp white sheets and brown/green accent pillows.

Why not a Matelisse quilt and shams instead - like those from Lands End?

The Nate Berkus HSN collection they showed a few weeks ago had a blanket they modeled after a shipping blanket.

I love the reversible colors and contrast stitching of Company C's Nirvana quilts. A different look from your photo, but still pretty versatile.

I hear you lady; I've also got a coverlet that I'm dying to replace. It's a pretty blue, but there's a stain on it, so I tried dyeing brown, but it didn't get dark enough to make me happy AND the dyeing revealed another stain.

Sooo....I've been looking on overstock, and there are some fairly nice quilts on there for less than $100.

Overstock!

(I'm putting a new coverlet on my Christmas wish list.)

CB2 has a nice one in a springy green, white or grey. The quilting has cool geometry to it:

Calvin Klein Core Collection coverlets. You can find them at Macys and Bloomingdales. If you want to spend less, you can also find them new on eBay for anywhere from $50 - $100, although it may take a few weeks to track down the right size and color. They come in a few colors - off white, ivory, robins egg blue, natural, muted plum, and blue black.

The Calvin Klein line used to have a collection called the Khaki collection, and the quilts in that collection were almost exactly like moving blankets. You can probably only find those on eBay as that line has been discontinued.
