Good Questions: Suggestions for Beds with Storage Drawers?

10.18bed.jpgHello AT,

I am looking for a bed with storage (drawers) and was wondering (hoping) you may have seen one and may have any recommendations. Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks! Cindy

Bo Concept has a beautiful one called Limo that has drawers as an option -- http://www.boconcept.us/Beds-75737.aspx

I bought a bed from Techline about 7 or 8 years ago. It has drawers underneath as well as storage space in the headboard. Great piece of furniture. I went to their site but only see Murphy-type beds. Maybe they still make them...it's worth investigating.

You can also try http://www.gothiccabinetcraft.com/beds-queen-size-beds-c-8_82.html

I got the galaxy platform bed with 4 drawers which I painted myself and it's a nice solid piece of furniture.

Gothic made one for me, a bit pricey but the only thing I could find that fit my needs. It has four drawers at the foot, and cabinets (linens) and open shelving (books & nightstand stuff) on both sides. You can peek at the end of it here:

I saw on the latest Small Space Big Style (HGTV) a good idea. The home owner bought two childrens twin size beds (they often have drawers) and put them back to back to form a queen size bed. Thought it was a good idea.

I bought mine from simply platform beds. Assembly required, but it took us only a couple hours and wasn't complicated/confusion, just a project. It's *incredibly* heavy (composite materials), but I find it comfortable and the drawers are a good size. It's not very pretty (composite materials), but it also has a very low profile, so I can live with it.

I bought c-tables from Crate and Barrel to use as bedside tables, so that I can open the drawers at the head of the bed without having to move the bedside table.

That pictured Ikea bed is the drawer'ed bed on my wish list, but it's enduringly out of stock at my "local" Ikea.

I have the Wonk Stillwell that is linked above. It's a wonderful bed. It even packs flat, everything slides together like a puzzle with no little pieces!

DesignQuest in Grand Rapids, MI carries some pretty inexpensive Scandinavian assemble-it-yourself furniture. I've never seen the brand elsewhere (although I haven't looked around all that much). The quality is on par with Ikea/Bo Concept. They have a couple of beds that have underbed storage.

I think Flou beds have the best storage. easy access, dust free, invisible. And very high quality hardware-- I think the mechanism is famous for its longevity. But, they are a lot pricier than most of the other options mentioned here. Just FYI.

my only advice, given from experience, is that if the drawers are not well made, and you stuff them full (which, of course i did) they will not open, the bottoms will fall out and you will curse the day you had the bright idea to get drawers in your bed.
isn't it bad feng shui to store stuff under your bed? just sayin'.

Both West Elm and Pottery Barn sell beds with underbed drawers (or cubbies for bins).

I have the Ikea one in the picture (Mandal?) in my quasi guest room and I love it. I painted it dark gray using a BM oil satin (keeping the drawers black) and it looks very sleek and mod. Amazing storage too. It's Ikea, of course, but it's very solid. I was choosing between this and the superpricey BluDot and I'm very happy I chose to save the money.

I have the Ikea 'Mandal' bed pictured. Inexpensive in comparison to almost anything else, and very sturdy! Took over an hour to put together - many parts and connectors - but not too difficult, and it was well worth the money spent. The pullout drawers are on metal runners and are very sturdy and well-fitted.

I compared the bed to what Gothic had to offer and liked Ikea's much better - the look, feel, everything. Gothic seemed a lot 'chunkier' and also more cheaply made. I've heard horror stories about flimsy Ikea beds but Mandal seems different - it's almost entirely solid wood, only a bit of melamine business on the drawers. Ample storage room, too.

I also vote for the IKEA bed in the picture. My boyfriend bought it recently and it's the sturdiest piece of furniture I have ever seen (and believe me, I've seen a lot cause I am really into furniture)

i was looking for a storage bed too. i wasnt to really utilise the space under the bed and since the bed is going to be against the wall (lengthways), i was thinking of a trundle, that way i could use the trundle for storage. any thoughts???
